Crossfade not working in iTunes 12.4

I'm using OSX El Capitan 10.11.1. iTunes automatically upgraded to 12.4. I played music on a playlist with crossfade activated, but none of the songs crossfaded. I'm aware crossfade doesn't work whenever songs are played in any sequence from the same artist and album, but my playlist was not organized as such, so it should have worked. I tried turning the feature off and on, and quitting iTunes and restarting, but no luck. Any suggestions?

Although I don't typically use this feature, you seem to be correct. Can get it to work either... You can report the problem here

The entry on Wikipedia (now removed) was wrong in that it stated that Apple had deliberately discontinued the option to cross fade in iTunes 12.4, despite leaving the cross fade commands in place. Having spoken with different people at Apple and that's how you get different versions of events, the cross fade feature IS NOT being removed but simply does not work in version 12.4. Depending on who you talk to at Apple support depends on what you actually want to believe or understand to be true.

Version 12.4 has a bug which stops the cross fade working. Getting a commitment regarding the bug or when a fix will be available is clearly something that in the main Apple don't want to commit to.

Wrong on three counts:

  • Apple are aware of this problem (as noted twice in this thread alone), have acknowledged it as a bug in 12.4.0, and stated that it will be fixed in a future update. Absolutely no evidence of deliberate removal of the functionality.
  • The author of that text as included in Wikipedia obviously has a beef with Apple - there is no evidence anywhere that Apple has a "long standing policy" of ignoring issues.
  • This entry appeared on Wikipedia less that 2 weeks after the release of 12.4.0; history suggests that Apple release cycle for "patch builds" is 3-4 weeks so there's no basis for stating that Apple is "ignoring the issue".

I suspect that part of the problem is that (as with any software company) there's a finite time required to gather and verify bug reports and to document these in the knowledgebase used by Tier 1 support. Users may not understand that Tier 1 helpdesk staff are not necessarily "experts" in the software they are supporting, and until a bug is verified as reproducible it may not be noted in the scripts that helpdesk staff are required to follow.

If Apple Support continue to deny that there's an issue, refer them to the comments in this thread that directly contradict this, and/or request that the issue should be escalated. As previously noted, tier 1 support staff are unlikely to be experts and in most cases simply follow a script and that's documented in their knowledgebase. I have no specific insight into Apple's polices but I do know of some software companies that are very reluctant to even acknowledge the existence of a bug until they have a fix in QA and have a release schedule for an update to address it.

I do wonder what all the fuss is about, though - crossfade is hardly "essential functionality".

Apparently you don't know the significance of needing crossfade to DJ weddings, parties, and other gigs. It sounds like crap when the music doesn't crossover from one song to the next. Seems to me like there are quite a few people just on this thread who rely on that perk of using iTunes to DJ. I'm sure there are countless others who just haven't found this thread or don't have the means to. I'm sure whatever your favorite feature is may be a "hardly" needed to most if us and I'm sure you wouldn't want it taken away!

I had a gig over the Memorial weekend and my work-around over the crossfade was that I adjusted the start and stop time of each song in the playlist, so that the start time began on the first note and the stop time ended at the last audible note; thus eliminating the gap between songs; no one seem to noticed there was no crossfade. It may be time consuming to some, but it should work until iTunes resolves the crossfade bug and releasing an upgrade.

I fixed the issue until the update comes out.

Download iTunes 12.3.3 dmg easily found through google.

Then I used a combo between these links to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall. Got tricky with apple music and iTunes .itl file but its in these posts.

Had to redownload all music from icloud music again which doubles up your files in your music folder. I just moved the remaining one music folder that contains the hard files inside the itunes folder and let it create a new one with all the new downloads.

Without showing icloud music i couldn't see my playlists etc.

Crossfading doesn't work for me either anymore.

I go a step further, after I have tried to get tech support at apple:

(Keep in mind that this isn't a user fault) I tried calling Apple in Germany, since I live in Germany, noticed that I'm calling at a time of no duty; called Apple America, who asked me for my serial# even though it has something to do with their updates, and since my mac is 4 years old it told me that I was wrong calling them... Great,

I tried the main hotline afterwards; I broke up after 15 minutes waiting for a guy, not talking to some techie who would tell me that I called the wrong ph# and my warranty would have been expired.

...Go ahead, Apple, chasing your customers away from you. Bad support, mixed with unconditional updates is always a good step to chase clients away; you've lost me today. My next system will not be based on Apple, even though I was your sincere client for almost 20 years... Your support for your faults simply suck, and I will not cope with you any longer. As a heavy user I need solutions for your homemade faulties, not waiting in lines who nobody will answer within 15 minutes, coming up with maybe weird apologies, since my warranty is due, but your fu...ing software is the theme...

I don't care anymore for a solution. I'm done, and if I develop solutions for myself, I'd better put my mac onto the street to the junk, and buy some fu...ing new pc that lets me installing whatsoever I want, or lets me do what I want, not what apple wants me to be able to do.

Steve is dead; his company will follow him. No doubt.
