Crossfade not working in iTunes 12.4

I'm using OSX El Capitan 10.11.1. iTunes automatically upgraded to 12.4. I played music on a playlist with crossfade activated, but none of the songs crossfaded. I'm aware crossfade doesn't work whenever songs are played in any sequence from the same artist and album, but my playlist was not organized as such, so it should have worked. I tried turning the feature off and on, and quitting iTunes and restarting, but no luck. Any suggestions?

Although I don't typically use this feature, you seem to be correct. Can get it to work either... You can report the problem here

I've tried to go back to 12.3 with only limited success.

YouTube has a couple of vids that instruct as follows :

Windows - Control Panel - Remove Programs.

Uninstall Itunes

Uninstall Apple Application 32 bit support

Uninstall Apple Application 64 bit support

Uninstall Apple Mobile Device Management

Re-install ITunes using software from APPLE ... Don't use anyone elses

.. and that was the problem for me. Since I can only find ITunes 12.1.x and that didn't support Apple Music

So I am stuck with 12.4 - hoping for a prompt fix to the 12.4 crossfade (crass fail) problem from Apple

I have to say, the more time passes and I move over to Mixx for DJ-ing, the more I notice the utter carnage this update has caused in my music folders. Apple Music streams seem to have replaced all my CD-rips and, curiously, some of my iTunes past purchases as well. And while there are duplicates all over the place, the only files that will respond to a click are the Apple Music d/loadable streamed ones - which, as d/loadable Apple Music files, are DRMed.

The upshot of all of this is that, potentially, if I accept what iTunes has arbitrarily done to my music collection, any CD I ripped last year for DJ-ing with will now ONLY PLAY in iTunes, because you can't play DRMed tracks like Apple Music downloads on anything but iTunes.

Searching for the replaced files, fortunately, finds them in the Music folder still and I have spent the last couple of days pulling across folders full of tunes and diligently deleting the Apple Music ones (the ones with the down/cloud icon).

I'm running to stand still, have to make a special effort to save the music I already own. This isn't on and I'll probably seek better music cataloguing software from now on and buy from Amazon, Google, etc to save opening up this awful program again.

I spoke to Apple support via phone on May 20th. Went through about 20 mins of troubleshooting with two people duplicating everything I had already tried. The conclusion was that it is a bug in the latest version of iTunes 12.4 after the support person tried it on his own computer. They said I would have to wait for the next update.

I'm really disappointed with Apple over the last few years. This seems like a very basic feature that should be tested prior to release. Steve is spinning in his grave. I have been a Mac user since 1987 and know my way around a Mac pretty well. I just recently purchased a new iMac and the migration from my 6 year old iMac was nothing short of painful. The auto migration wouldn't complete and it took me days and days to sort it out manually. Never again. I will take both machines into the Apple shop and have them sort it. For many years you could say, "It just works." That is definitely not the case anymore.

Are you sure it won't be fixed? Sounds like a disgruntled person to me. If you remember, back in iTunes 11-something the display duplicates feature stopped working in one release. It was back in the next. This isn't the kind of thing that is going to have people jumping off bridges other than DJs who should know better than to not be prepared for this kind of thing to happen on occasion. If you are still seeing a feature in the menu then somebody must have gotten really sloppy in removing it. Either that or it was unintentionally disabled and will be back, at Apple's leisure, when they release the next iTunes version. Just like showing duplicates returned after a few weeks. Everybody chill.

If you want to be a squeaky wheel then post feedback to Apple. The only people reading this forum are other users like you who can't do anything about it.

I am sure Apple knows about it by now. Posting here isn't likely to make them do things any faster, particularly if it was done intentionally. It is a minor bug on the scheme of things and most users probably have no idea it even exists.

Decided I couldn't wait for a fix and downgraded to iTunes 12.3. Not the easiest thing to do but have managed it successfully. Lots of support available if you Google it and some good YouTube vids available as well.

If you are thinking of doing it using El Capitan, I suggest you disable the auto protect feature it has built in before downgrading. You need to be able to overwrite and upgrade files during the downgrade process which El Capitan won't let you do unless you disable the auo protect feature. Once you've done the downgrade you can re-enable the auto protect feature of the El Capitan software.

This shouldn't be necessary. If Apple can't/won't fix the broken crossfade feature, they should at least offer to allow users to choose the older, better version of iTunes. I was dumb enough to allow automatic "upgrades" of iTunes. Never again. This should have been a simple fix, and it should have been done by now. It is not in Apple's interest to have angry, disillusioned customers, but that's what they have when they choose to ignore complaints. No wonder the share price is down 30+% over the past year. Keeping existing customers/users happy is a much better business strategy than counting on "the next big thing" for the company's success.

Same here. Spent about an hour with Apple iTunes experts a couple of weeks ago trying to figure this out. This is an important feature for me to use. I've had to resort to using my PC to get the feature to work for what I use the music for. The first iTunes expert told me, "Well, I have it installed on my mac and I don't have that problem." Second expert: Took me through safe-mode reboot, shift and reboot, shift and start iTunes, unclick cross fade-close tunes-open iTunes (do it again with pressing shift), etc. etc. and then said, "My supervisor informs me that there is no solution to this problem at this time. You'll just have to wait for an upgrade." Three weeks later, I'm still waiting Apple...please!!!! Fix this!

In May 2016, Apple released the latest iTunes operating system, 12.4, which eliminated the ability to crossfade, though the commands remained in the menu. In spite of numerous complaints from users, Apple, as is their long standing policy, ignored the requests of their consumers for a "fix" to the problem.
