Live Photos separated

I need some help. I just came back from my holiday with my family and I took loads of pictures using the 'live photo' feature. However, I made the mistake of importing it into aperture and deleting the pics upon import. So now in aperture I have photos and a Mov file for each live photo. I'm aware that this is how live photos work, it is essentially a jpeg and a mov, but how to I recombine them back onto my phone or on the Photos app on the mac?

1 - assemble the components of the "live" photos into a folder on the Desktop. Include the .AAE files for each photo.

2 - import that folder into a Photos Library.

I don't expect it to work but it's worth a try. When it doesn't offer an apology to Larry because he was correct in that there's no way to reassemble a broken live photo.

After playing with it for a bit I discovered that the reason why my initial import didnt work was because the mov file had a different date to the original file. It said was todays date as I 'exported' a version from aperture without realising. I exported the 'original' and BOOM, the simple drag of the folder into photos enabled it perfectly without a long winded download of external apps. So although one can 'make' a live photo from the mov file and choosing the image as the still, just simply having a mov and jpeg file with the same metadata does the job. Photos recognises it immediately.

So advice to those who say 'It cant be done'...well it can.

Thanks Old Toad...this is all I asked for, something constructive. You're genius.

Sorry the the answer is

Live Photos are a new feature and does not work with Aperture (an old and discontinued program) - they only work with Photos (the latest version is 1.5 with OS X 10.11.5)

And there is no way to make a live photos from a photo and a MOV - you have to import the live photo form the phone to Photos directly - once you have separated the two pieces you can not reassemble them

Not sure why you insist that there "must be a way" - but if there is you need to tell us since there is no known way

There has to be a way because:

1) I have the components that made up the original file

2) I know of one app (fyuse) that can make live photos by means other than how the iphone makes it. That means others have found a way to 'make' live photos

3) If you wanted to help you can start by telling me how Photos stores live photos in its library. I've found the jpeg component but not the mov part.

4) I'll ignore your condescending tone.

I tried your folder thing, and photos, as you predicted, does not recognise it as a live photo. However it is possible to recombine the two pieces. There is an app called 'intoLive' that allows you to make any video into a live photo and as a final step after choosing a video you can choose a still picture as the first frame, thus re-combining the two pieces. This is why I said I find it hard to believe that it isn't a simple solution to combine two simple files to act as one. All it takes is for someone to do it first. However, truth be told, it doesn't look like the sound is preserved for some reason, but at the same time, I haven't purchased the pro version, which is £1 something. So any devs out there, there is an opportunity to make some cash...make a live photo creator for the mac, add a feature where you can do batch recombines and stuff. At the moment one can only make a live photo via the new iphone, but it is possible to do it via other means.

Update:

This morning I went to my initial Aperture import, exported the live photos (ie the Jpeg & mov files) in batch and did so using the 'export originals' option. It is very important that the raw original files are exported and not edited ones, as different dates separates the two files. Once both files/components of the live photo have the same name and metadata, just drag and drop into Photos and BOOM!!! it just works. Its a relief that Apple didnt require some extra file to link to two together and that the program is smart enough to just link the two files together.

As an afterthought, it seems like a good exploit to make ones own custom Live Photos. Maybe just two files with same name and metadata would be sufficient to make it live. So 'potentially' one can join longer mov videos and better quality images. I will give it a try and see what I get. Will Update you all.

Tried to import into Photos a mov and jpeg with the same filename and time stamp but it doesnt work. Not sure what else live photos have in them that links them together. I would suspect some metadate that I either cannot access in Aperture or don't recognise. Either way, thats it from me. Can't spend more time on it. If anyone else wishes to pic up on this then by all means share your findings here.

But the conclusion of all of this is that it is super easy to recombine Live Photos after they have been split via Aperture or other programs.

I just imported more than 2000 photos and half of the live photos that I took originally imported correctly as live photos. However, once I did this, it said that there were more photos that needed to be imported. So, I imported the rest of my photos and then duplicates of my live photos (the same ones as before) showed up, but this time as videos. How do I combine over 1000 photos in a better & fast way and change my live videos back to live photos?
