How do you import a DVD into FCP X?

I was forced to use FCP X after using FC Studio for years, which I loved. I really don't like this new version. I find it very confusing and not user friendly. But how do I IMPORT a DVD into the system?

Also I'm trying to download HANDBRAKE, but my computer is telling me only APPLE PRODUCTS are allowed. I used to have HANDBRAKE before this dumb upgrade. I got a "message" saying my PREFERENCES had to be set to accept HANDBRAKE. But I checked and it doesn't give the opportunity to change PREFERENCES.

I have a MAC BOOK PRO I bought four years ago.

Thanks for you help.

Best,

Andy

Just to update, FCP 7 did install on 10.11.

A couple of things: I installed from a disk image, which I would typically do anyway. But just to add, my optical drive is acting flaky so I couldn't test installing from the physical disks. (There are a lot of reasons to create disk images from the DVDs; flaky drives are only one of them.) I then tested a simple project, which worked without issues.

Also, I didn't install anything other than FCP. I know that some of the other apps (like Motion) either don't work or work with limited functionality.

Good luck.
