Network Diagnostics won't close or force quit

Hi,

I'm new here so am hoping somebody can help me out?

Every time I use Network diagnostics it completes the check but wont close and just stays in my dock, force quit doesn't work and the only

way I can remove it is to force my mac to shutdown, which I know is not a great thing to keep doing. I've googled and haven't come up with anything useful. The only thing that has changed recently is that I've moved so am using a new broadband supplier, everything else seems to be working fine.

Any help VERY gratefully received.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one. Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later. Isolating an issue by using another user account

First right click on network utility an option will be there - quit . click on it .

Or try to shut down the system from power button that is on extreme right corner of the computer i.e. next to F12 . keep on pressing the power button for 1.5 sec or press control + power button .

The screen will be black .

Close the lid and then again press the power button . the system will open with chime , enter user name & password then verify is the app still in dock .

Well, next time I have to open the Diagnostics app again to battle with my continual lagging/dropped connections, I'll try that but I still don't see why it's suddenly started appearing multiple times when it never used to; and why you can't force quit it using any other other methods, and indeed, why you can't restart the computer and instead have to resort to a hard reboot.

...it's like the newly-insistent app is somehow not allowing the computer to restart normally, or shut the app down normally - just in the last few weeks or so. Even if I have suddenly developed the habit of not shutting the window down properly (although as usual, I simply click 'done' when it tells me my connection seems to working normally), then why can't I use any of the normal methods to shut these extra windows down?
