How can I use an Airport Time capsule to provide internet to my iMac G5?

Hello!

I have an iMac g5 17" that does not currently have a wireless card in it. As this computer is set up at a desk in my room and my router for my network is downstairs, I was wondering if I could use an old Airport Time Capsule to wirelessly connect to my network (and extend it) and then use ethernet to connect the Time Capsule to the iMac, thus providing the iMac with internet. I am somewhat tech savvy, but it would be awesome if you could include the steps of how to accomplish this in your answer. Thank you so much!

Hi Sam,

It seems that what you're looking to do, is use your Time Capsule as a wireless ethernet bridge to your iMac. I know it is nice to be able to easily get internet access across the house, so I'll be happy to provide some resources to help you get started.

I believe that the information in this article will help you determine what will work best for your setup. Note that at the bottom, it provides links to the specific steps for these options:

Good luck, and have a great rest of your day!

Extending Time Capsule wireless network with an Airport Extreme

Another idea would be to use the more basic AirPort Express, with ethernet cable, to

the iMac G5 or other computer without wi-fi card; and set it up to be a transceiver.

The link above has a reply that could help connect an iMac without wi-fi card this way.

A matter of settings and set-up conditions affect the results.

While I have an early AirPort express (c. 2004) I use it as main wi-fi presently.

{A good possibility to allow options with iMac G5 would be to get wi-fi card.}

Also have AirPort Extreme models from some years ago; slower than new models

but still durable & are protected from electrical variables behind UPS filtered power

where battery backup automatically steps in should extremes occur.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
