How long did it take to recover your apple id?

It's taken three days so far. I made my iPhone my trusted device. After updating to the latest OS I was required to sign in with my Apple ID. I have forgotten it. Apple sent a code to my phone, which I cannot access. I've asked for ID recovery and it is taking FOREVER. I was wondering how long it has taken other people to recover their accounts. Thank you.

I FIXED IT GUYS!

So here's what you do – Remove your SIM card and put it in another phone so you can receive the text code. Turn on your iPhone and treat it like an iPod on a WiFi network. When it gets to the two-factor verification step, it'll send the verification code to your phone number which will be received by the other phone. Enter the code and your iPhone should start up. You can put the SIM card back it when your iPhone is ready to go.

For the other phone, you can borrow one (I used my mom's) OR you can probably go to the Apple store and have them help you. They might need you to explain what to do but they should be able to help.

it took about 20 hours just to find out that it would take 5 days to get instructions on how i would recover my Apple ID , once i seen that i wasn’t going for that and going to wait that long to get access back into my iCloud account and since i didn’t have access to get the code because it was getting sent to my old phone # i then decide to call my phone company sprint and after being on the phone with the nice assistant helping me she was able retrieve my old phone # and change it back to that number i was able to access my Apple ID because the code got sent to that number and that’s how i retrieve my iCloud! And I didn’t have to wait for the account recovery as I would have if didn’t do that.

And once I got IN i turn the two step vertication OFF and decided to just use the 3 security questions being asked to get back into iCloud it’s the easiest way & Fastest way to get back into your iCloud account. Make sure you write your answers down or use simple answers to remember it’s not hard questions that you would forget the answers to and I also changed my Apple ID password ! So I suggest the ONLY way to access your Apple ID is to try to get your old phone number back to get your code so you don’t hve to wait for the recovery process because like I stated above it takes about 20 hours just for apple to tell you on that it will take 5 days or more to get instructions on how to recover your iCloud ! Also don’t forget to change the phone number so it’s easier for you to get the code again if this happens again Which is so STRESSFUL and ANNOYING so i know EXACTLY how your feeling right now that’s why I’m writing my experience with this whole can’t get into iCloud and having to deal with the stupid Recovery Progress ******** Apple isn’t helpful at ALL in this situation so hopefully my advice can make it easier for you to gain access to your account ! Wish you the best of luck if your dealing with this issue And Also Don’t forget to turn the two step verification OFF so this NEVER happens to you again

I have the answer if you are setup with 2 factor authentication. Funny that apple support call could not supply this answer.

I tried the self reset at https://iforgot.apple.com/password/verify/appleid IT gave me a 18 hour then a 4 day wait. Called as it seemed like a ridiculous process that i should be sent automatically to my phone being a trusted device. They said i had to wait.

Then i figured it out on my own, I used the find my iphone app or website and selected forgot password and this triggered the automatic send of a PIN code and ability to reset my password on the spot.

Why is this not in apples knowledge base?

I have now waited 7 days and have a scheduled recovery date and time (down to the last second) in 1 weeks time. So, for 2 weeks I will have been without my iPad. Why? All I did was power down because it had become so slow, then power back up again, and enter, as usual, my 4 digit unlock passcode. Then, when my Apple id password was not recognised (which, incidentally, it was when I accessed this community), I found myself locked out and having to go the iforgot route. Certainly thinking twice about another Apple device when my iPad finally gives up, especially in light of the Apple-imposed phone slowdown software. Can I not choose whether I want to live with a shorter battery charge time? Who owns my Apple devices, me or Apple?

I'm having the same problem and have been waiting almost 4 weeks! My trusted device was stolen so I couldn't receive the authentication code. Have since got a new phone but am yet to recover any of my contacts, photos, or basically anything that I put into the cloud in case of something like this happening. I rang apple support nearly 3 weeks ago and haven't heard anything since. Ridiculous - such bad service. I have had to create a brand new apple id just to be able to use my new phone.

i requested mine when i thought my iphone was hacked since my phone wouldn't turn on and got corrupted, i sent a request in and had to wait 4 days to apply, i got it monday and was told to wait 28 days, currently it's friday and i'm still supposed to be waiting 28 days, the worst thing is that i called them and asked for them to cancel the process and they can't cancel it because once it starts they can't stop it, i also remembered the password, i should be able to enter my password to get back into it, this has literally been my only issue with an apple device.

A year and a half later, Apple is still just as inept at this process. My daughter's phone was run over by a car, is crushed, and she wants to log into her iCloud account to access her photos, etc, but can't remember her password. We followed the instructions for recovery, and it said 24 hours. 24 hours later, it said 5 days. Five days later it says 4 days. Unbelievable!

Hello, nicolecet99!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! I can understand needing to be sure your Apple ID is working properly for purchases and signing into your device! Check out this article here with steps: If you forgot your Apple ID.

If the steps listed are not helping, it might be best to contact Apple over the phones. You can find the best options for you by going to this link: Contact Apple Support.

Hope these steps help! Cheers!

I've been trying since Aug 4 when the phone was stolen. It was actually recovered by the police (after serving Apple with a subpoena to get data since that date) but I am no further ahead. Also have the same issue of the trusted number being that phone number which is now tied to a different IMEI number (since I replaced it after it was stolen). So going on over 7 weeks and this iforgot recovery is one messed up, non-working process. Have tried to escalate with Apple but that hasn't produced any results. A number of times when you initiate the iforgot recovery process, it'll say we'll send instructions to the trusted number. They don't arrive. Online it has given a date after 24 hours (2 weeks later) but inevitably a week or so into that, it's just gone and you have to start it again. You do it again, or you wait a while because you're so sick of wasting your time, and that's how you end up over 7 weeks later no further ahead than when you first started.

Thank you SO much! This helped me get back into my Apple ID. It worked instantly. TT_TT

For me, I had been locked out of my Apple ID, and my phone had been disabled. It is my only Apple device. First, I had to go the Apple Store to get that sorted. Fortunately, they were able to at least get me back into my iPhone, since I had brought my proof of purchase with me. Then I tried account recovery, but I never got the second text with the information about how to actually recover the account. I even had my phone off during the entire period.

I tried your advice just now and am typing this post while FINALLY logged in to my Apple ID. THANK YOU!

Just like in AoiHikage's post, I went through account recovery and entered my phone number. When it gave the option to either use a phone number or a trusted device, I chose "trusted device", and I instantly got a message on my phone asking me if I wanted to allow my Apple ID to be unlocked. I said "Allow", entered my pin, set a new password, and I'm back in.

Again, THANK YOU!

I hope this confirmation can help others.

My Apple ID was disabled after I had some credit card fraud. However I have tried to recover it for 4 months now, and they send me a date and it’s never fixed!!! I’ve reset my password, logged in and out on my devices...nothing!!! I will have to call and have an actual person reset it as I’m done wasting time!!! I would create a new one, but then I’ll lose all my info. It shouldn’t be this hard to reset a disabled Apple ID!!! 😡

cin.c, it worked!!! Everyone please try this - I just set up an iforgot recovery whatever and when I got an email saying it would be over a week, I came here and was even more dismayed to see it could take weeks! In a digital age, it takes WEEKS to reset a password? Ridiculous. But no, the apple icon on a mac did the trick. Thank you! I will I could click helpful a 1000 times!

However ive tried to to unlock my account and apple said that i need to wait again a 24 days to recover my account its really bad...very dissappointed

Thanks AppleJen77. I spoke with support 3 times since Saturday June 18th when I requested recovery for my Apple ID. The new "trusted device" was the problem. I made my iPhone the trusted device so when it automatically updated and so required re-activation, this became an issue because I forgot my password. Texts and phone calls from support went to a "trusted" phone I couldn't access. The page where I was supposed to be updated on the recovery progress, said "we've received your request to recover your ID it will take a few days" until June 21st. Then last night (June 21st around 6pm) I received an email stating that they received my request on June 22nd at 12:-01PM!!!!!!! I made the request on June 18th. This is terrible service. I am currently using my work Apple ID because my personal ID and phone are still locked. Poor, poor service. I was hoping someone could give me a time frame as to how long this recovery takes. A few days or a few weeks?
