How long did it take to recover your apple id?

It's taken three days so far. I made my iPhone my trusted device. After updating to the latest OS I was required to sign in with my Apple ID. I have forgotten it. Apple sent a code to my phone, which I cannot access. I've asked for ID recovery and it is taking FOREVER. I was wondering how long it has taken other people to recover their accounts. Thank you.

I looked into the suggested solutions before my post. Sadly I'm too simple minded and got confused. The easy solution that worked for me unfortunately requires a macbook:

Click on the apple icon  (on the very top bar) > System preferences > iCloud > click on"Forgot Apple ID or Password"?

Follow the instructions and I got my account back in several seconds.

I feel you, the support service is bad and is not helpful at all, all they say is wait.

I'm the only one in the family using Iphone, my husband and daughter warned me and suggested for me to opt for SAMSUNG, It was a big mistake having an Iphone.

My account was blocked for more than 10 days now and there is no concrete service level, what is this kind of service you don't know when your machine will be fixed.

I have been phoning and waiting for my account recovery for about two months. The only advise apple seniors could give me was, turn off your devices. Which I can't do because I use them for school. They didn't even offer me alternatives. Terrible service. I even e mailed my 'personal senior' and after a week he still did not respond. I filed an official complaint. I wonder how long it will take until I hear back from that.

Defenitely not going back to apple after this.

I started the account recovery process on 3/29/17 and finally today (4/12/17, 14 days later) I finally got the call giving me instructions on how to recover my ID. I was pretty ****** off at the whole situation because once I clicked account recovery and went through all the steps it told me it'd be a few days so I called Apple support and they said they couldn't do anything to help. I find it ridiculous that they leave the customer and customer service rep completely powerless once the recovery process is started. I am grateful however that I finally got my account back. 2 weeks seems like a long time to me however I have seen a few other responses on here where people are still waiting weeks later so I guess I'm lucky. Hang in there guys!

2 weeks to get the account back? Thats ridiculous. I spoke to an advisor on the phone and, after exhausting all other options, the only thing left to do was to wait. How long? He couldn't answer it. Because the Apple ID is still signed in to the device, I'm reluctant to sign it out. But I was told that I have to make the Apple ID offline (basically sign out from any devices thats got it) because the recovery process works that way. Of course I didn't want to do that as it still works but I can't download any future apps etc. So he advised me to turn off wifi and mobile data on those devices. Is that really necessary?

In order for this recovery process to work I have to sign out my apple ID from all devices and wait up to 2 weeks (maybe even more) to get an email notification telling me that its all done??

This is ridiculous!!!! I'm going through the same thing received an email and still haven't received anything back! It's going on a week. I'm confused on how APPLE can make so much money but account recovery (being as tho can be a big problem for a lot of people) obviously has no solution at all! I also use my account for business and lost a lot of important file on my account. I'm in serious trouble because of this. Some needs to spread the word around about this because APPLE will lose customers

Clearly you've never had this issue because apple support will only tell you it takes a few days, they are no help whatsoever. This question was asked to get a timeline from others who have had this issue since Apple won't give a straight answer. If you've read any of the replies you have seen that the wait time varies drastically. Having that information is helpful so you have a realistic expectation vs 'a few days'. I haven't seen anyone on here get theirs back in less than 8 days which is more than 'a few' to me. I honestly think your comment here is not helpful in the slightest and actually just plain rude.

I FIXED IT GUYS!

So here's what you do – Remove your SIM card and put it in another phone so you can receive the text code. Turn on your iPhone and treat it like an iPod on a WiFi network. When it gets to the two-factor verification step, it'll send the verification code to your phone number which will be received by the other phone. Enter the code and your iPhone should start up. You can put the SIM card back it when your iPhone is ready to go.

For the other phone, you can borrow one (I used my mom's) OR you can probably go to the Apple store and have them help you. They might need you to explain what to do but they should be able to help.

I've been trying to recover my wife's ID for months. They want an old credit card that no longer exists for verification. Then I go through the recovery process and either don't get an email or miss it. Meanwhile some stupid app is sucking out $10 a month through her account, linked to my card as a family. Just got off the phone with another AppleCare person who has no advice other than try again. We need a class action lawsuit.

This topic might be a bit stale, but I had this issue, too. I forgot my password, and numerous attempts got me locked out. I started the recovery process yesterday, and it said it would take a few days (!!). Seeing crazy counts in *weeks* here had me really nervous, so I tried something different.

In the recovery process, I entered my Apple ID and the captcha.. then my phone number. I get the screen saying "your request is still being processed.." yada yada. There's a link there that says "provide extra info." Clicking on that, I'm then given the option to recover using my phone or a trusted device. I had been trying with my phone, so this time I tried the trusted device.

Boom. Immediately got a message on my phone asking me to authorize, entered my phone's PIN and chose "unlock and change password." New password entered, and I'm back in business. No 7-week wait. I can't believe that's even a thing.

I'm on two-step authentication, and I also have an old credit card tied to the account that we no longer have. I'll be updating that so I don't get stuck on that next time.

I really hope this helps someone. Good luck!

The similar thing happened to me two weeks before. It was so frustrating that I had no access to my Contacts and Photos. I got my account recovered in 3 days.

They need to verify its the right person requested for the recovery. So provide all the information they ask you like your Card number you used for Itunes, Your Two Factor authorisation number, and your icloud id.

I provided all these information and received a confirmation mail for recovery the next day. I confirmed it and got my id recovered in the next two days. If you provide the right information, you will get your account back. If not it might take ages.

Good luck

"Recovering an Apple account" is by far the worst apple experience. Total incompetence on their behalf.

Here's the deal, I accidently disabled my phone which had the two step verification process enabled and I had no trusted devices that could receive texts (the other device was my son's ipad and he was signed into messages using his own apple account). Therefore, because I forgot the password, I was required to "recover" the apple account. I learned this on the iforgot page of apple's website.

It was three days of total frustration. I went to the iforgot page and started account recovery. I entered the correct credit card and used a friend's phone number to have the verification information sent. At the end of this process, the apple website said that the "account recovery process has begun and it would take a few days and to check back for a status." After a few hours, I went back to check the status. It made me start over. This series of events repeated 4-5 times over the next few days. I called Apple on Day 2 to inquire. The customer service representative said that the account recovery was underway and there was nothing she could do to check the status or expedite. The following day, I called again because I was again made to start the process over. I was fortunate to talk to a gentleman who knew what he was doing. He first said that there was no indication that my account was in the recovery process. However, he then suggested I go to ITunes on my son's ipad. Wow! My apple ID was signed in on that device (different than imessage). I was able to change my apple password through that. Took no time. Problem solved.

1. Why didn't the first representative with whom I spoke suggest that I look at other places where I may had been signed in with the apple id so that it would be easy to just change my password?

2. Why didn't I get a confirmation email regarding account recovery to the email account linked to the apple id?

3. Why did the account recovery process never actually start notwithstanding the fact I went through the process 4-5 times?

4. Why can't you talk to anyone about account recovery? Seriously, there are a lot of ways to verify identify. Why does it have to go into the faceless internet abyss?

LESSON LEARNED - DISABLE THE 2 STEP VERIFICATION!!!!! NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE!!!!

I spent several months trying to recover my wife's account for her. It's too easy to get stuck in an unresolveable catch 22. The only thing that fixed it Was finally guessing the right password. I promptly turned off two-factor ID. The thing is, Apple wants it to run on auto pilot and they are unwilling to spend more on security to allow real people to resolve these problems quickly and safely. Think Profit.

Apple introduced 2 factor authentication because people were complaining about their Apple IDs being hacked.

It's for added security and unless you created your Apple ID in March of 2017 you ARE NOT required to use 2 factor authentication. You have to opt into it. It's something that you would have had to do yourself. There is NOT a specific time frame for account recovery. It depends on the information you can provide to Apple. i.e. Credit Card info, confirmation email.

If you don't like 2 factor, don't use it
