Canon iR6570 and Windows Print Queue on 10.4.8

Hi, we're using a Windows 2000 print server with a queue setup for a Canon imageRunner 6570 model network multifunction printer.

I am trying to connect to the printer using the queue. The queue name is 4th_Canon and I have the protocol set to LPD and then I put in the server IP and queue name. I can add the printer with no problem, but when I print to it, it says connecting to <print server IP> and then nothing happens and the printer goes offline. The job status is set to Cancelled.

My machine is an iBook 14" with 1.33GHz PPC processor, 512MB of RAM, and Mac OS X 10.4.8. I obtained the Canon drivers from http://www.usa.canon.com/html/download/im5565.html and the file I downloaded from there was iR-PPDv2.10Mac.hqx

Any help on how to get this to work is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dee

I tried with a new PS3 queue (4th CanonPS) and it ended up printing out around 300 blank pages with about 10 or so containing garbage characters and what not.

So, it looks like the print server driver makes a difference, but not in a good way. As opposed to not printing at all using the PCL6 driver, now I get 300 pages of nothing.

Hi Dee,

The server driver shouldn't be influencing the spool file. At least not with this machine. So can you confirm some settings for me;
1. Are you using Windows Printing on the Mac to connect to the Windows printer share?
2. How is the driver configured on the print server? Is it connecting via Port 9100 or LPD?
3. Can this shared driver print okay?

Regards,

Paul

The IP printing to the Windows print server is the problem. You have to connect to the Windows share using SMB. So, on the Mac, when you add the printer, select More Printers and then select Windows Printing. Browse to the server's workgroup, then to the server - authenticate if you are asked to - then select the iR5570 shared printer from the list. Then you can browse the Canon list for the iR5570/6570 PPD.
