Macbook 2016 HDMI output flickering

I have both MacBook 2015 and MacBook 2016,

and I've purchased the original Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter.

I've loaded both MacBooks with genuine copies of Windows 10 Pro with bootcamp, partition cut into half between Mac OS and Windows 10.

The new MacBook 2016, while doing screen cloning using the Multiport Adapter under Windows 10,

the output always flickers, and the pattern is always consistent:

1.) Waking up from sleep, always flickers once;

2.) And then will at least flickers 2-3 times more;

It doesn't happen with the MacBook 2015,

is this is hardware design flaw of the new MacBook 2016?? Or is it a software (driver) issue?

All drivers are being updated to the latest.

I have the same issue, and also issues connecting to a LG 27UD88-W external monitor via USB-C.

Here's my experience:

- Purchased a MacBook in May 2016

- Started experiencing screen flickering, screen blacking out for a few seconds, and kernel panics related to graphics when using a Multiport Adaptor

- Returned to an Apple Store in August 2016 and replaced for a brand new MacBook

- Still experienced issues with the Multiport Adaptor

- Purchased an LG 27UD88-W display which connects directly over USB-C in the hope this would fix the issue

- Now have problems with the screen blacking out constantly, or display signal being dropped completely. The setup is pretty much unusable :-(

My colleague has the same set up (MacBook 2016 + LG 27UD88-W) and has exactly the same issues.

With the discontinuation of the Thunderbolt Display it really feels like MacBook customers have been left stranded without an a viable option for external displays... here's hoping Apple fixes this situation soon.

I'm pretty much in the same boat - bought a 2016 MacBook in May, tried a "cheap" monitor adapter and worked my way up to the Apple Multiport, as that was the only one that was even remotely reliable connected to my monitor (Acer K272HUL). Of course, because I don't have AppleCare, I don't have any support other than to drive an hour to the nearest Apple Store. I thought at one point that blowing dust out of the USB-C connector was helping, but in truth, it wasn't actually solving the problem. Pretty much just reboot it every morning now, as that seems to be the only way to keep the thing from constantly blacking out on me. If this isn't a problem with every m7 2016 MacBook, it's got to be pretty close...

Apple won't be able to fix anything over the phone. The advisors I spoke with were very patient but they didn't seem overly convinced about the issue. I don't blame them -- I can't even reproduce the problem on certain displays...

I will take my Mac to the genius bar this weekend and keep you all posted on what the tests they run.

I have been told by multiple advisors, however, that they have no information about this sort of error. It took them all by surprise.

I mentioned this thread and I was told that sometimes multiple people can have the same symptom but doesn't necessarily mean we all have the same problem.

What I told the advisors:

a. HDMI output display cuts out periodically anywhere from every 5 minutes to every hour.

b. Soft rebooting the OS solves the problem, until the computer goes to sleep again.

c. I've tried third party adapters and the official Apple adaptor. I've also tried multiple HDMI cables. I cannot reproduce the problem on my TV at home (Toshiba); however, my display at work (Sharp) has the issue.

d. I've tried resetting the SMC and PRAM and reinstalling OS. None of these have helped.

If they say they are unaware of the issue, ask them to look up Apple Care Case # 1184045304

I've been working for over a month with them do diagnose / debug. I've sent countless logs, screenshots and even photographs/videos. I've re-imaged the device, I've reset PRAM/SMC, I've tried all sorts of different cables/adapters/monitors. As they say... "NOT IN OUR HEADS" ... this is a real issue.
