Macbook 2016 HDMI output flickering

I have both MacBook 2015 and MacBook 2016,

and I've purchased the original Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter.

I've loaded both MacBooks with genuine copies of Windows 10 Pro with bootcamp, partition cut into half between Mac OS and Windows 10.

The new MacBook 2016, while doing screen cloning using the Multiport Adapter under Windows 10,

the output always flickers, and the pattern is always consistent:

1.) Waking up from sleep, always flickers once;

2.) And then will at least flickers 2-3 times more;

It doesn't happen with the MacBook 2015,

is this is hardware design flaw of the new MacBook 2016?? Or is it a software (driver) issue?

All drivers are being updated to the latest.

I had the same problem with my 2016 MacBook. I also experienced sporadic disconnects of my external SSD drive. Not cool. It got worse. In the end I could not reliably charge the device. It boiled down to the USB-C connector being faulty and had it replaced on warranty. After that repair the HDMI Adapter worked without a problem.

If you mean Security Update 2016-001 i would say its a false possitive.

Since you need to reboot it probably seem to be ok since that make the issue go away for awhile.

This update only updated kernel-stuff and safari. It got the same issue as the iPhone did a week ago.

Hey everyone,

I just want to chime in and say that I am having the exact same problem.

I've tried multiple HDMI cables, multiple monitors/TV/projectors, multiple adapters. The worst flickers I have seem to come in conjunction with using a Sharp TV.

I have a 2016 12" Macbook.

My problem is pretty isolated, I get flickers every 5 minutes-1 hourish. Rebooting the computer (soft reset) completely solves the problem until the system goes to sleep again.

I called Apple to talk to someone about it. They escalated the call but they ended up ending the call (accidentally I'm sure) before I could talk to someone about it further. Going to call again.

Has anyone heard anything about a fix coming? Maybe with os Sierra?

I have the same issue, and also issues connecting to a LG 27UD88-W external monitor via USB-C.

Here's my experience:

- Purchased a MacBook in May 2016

- Started experiencing screen flickering, screen blacking out for a few seconds, and kernel panics related to graphics when using a Multiport Adaptor

- Returned to an Apple Store in August 2016 and replaced for a brand new MacBook

- Still experienced issues with the Multiport Adaptor

- Purchased an LG 27UD88-W display which connects directly over USB-C in the hope this would fix the issue

- Now have problems with the screen blacking out constantly, or display signal being dropped completely. The setup is pretty much unusable :-(

My colleague has the same set up (MacBook 2016 + LG 27UD88-W) and has exactly the same issues.

With the discontinuation of the Thunderbolt Display it really feels like MacBook customers have been left stranded without an a viable option for external displays... here's hoping Apple fixes this situation soon.

I'm pretty much in the same boat - bought a 2016 MacBook in May, tried a "cheap" monitor adapter and worked my way up to the Apple Multiport, as that was the only one that was even remotely reliable connected to my monitor (Acer K272HUL). Of course, because I don't have AppleCare, I don't have any support other than to drive an hour to the nearest Apple Store. I thought at one point that blowing dust out of the USB-C connector was helping, but in truth, it wasn't actually solving the problem. Pretty much just reboot it every morning now, as that seems to be the only way to keep the thing from constantly blacking out on me. If this isn't a problem with every m7 2016 MacBook, it's got to be pretty close...
