TextEdit slow, Excel won't work

After the latest El Capitan update, Textedit files take nearly a minute to open! And Microsoft Excel does not work at all. Does anyone know how to resolve this? It said it was just a security update, but my computer was locked down for nearly a half hour, and there was some dialog when it finished stating there had been some sort of problem, but then when the computer rebooted, I didn't see evidence of that until I noticed how slow Textedit was to open, and that I can't use Microsoft Excel at all. Microsoft Word will still open fine.

I notice the quantumintech extension, which I could not find, actually goes to my Emwave2 device which I have not used in a long time, because I had trouble with it storing data the last time I did. I got it on the advice of a chiropractor, but now I'm wondering if I should try to sell it...and let the buyer try to get the latest software for it on whatever system they use. Or else I could try to use it with my PC laptop, instead.

I think that Flip4Mac is an older program, too, which is not supported by the current OS. I should probably get rid of AppleWorks as well as Adobe CS1, which must be somewhere on this computer...

-- I agree on emwave (quantumintech), you will find it. perhaps with FindAnyFile by Thomas Tempelman.

-- Flip4 Mac is not supported but very probably the cause of your slow mac.

-- Test the compatibility (update) of Fuse for OSX, or when you do not need to write to a NTFS drive, uninstall it.

-- The Logitech Cotrol Center is probably compatible but I am not sure.

>>> Codedesign however is still taking a lot of resources, I am not familiar with it, but it has to do with signing code for developers. I am not sure how to et rid of it....

It is already MUCH better than before, but I am not satisfied...
