Office 2016 crashes on OS X 10.11.6

I went through Apple support and they had me reinstall office, reboot in safe mode, reinstall OS X and then the last suggestion was to do a clean install of OS X. None of this fixed my issue. I went through Microsoft and they gave me much the same suggestions. Nothing is working. Is there any suggestions?

What happened when you tried to launch Outlook in the new User?

Since PP crashed, this indicates some issue at the base level. Do you still have Office 2011 installed. I have on occasion seen removing Office 2011 fixed issues with Office 2016. Usually it's fonts. You could just try moving the Microsoft fonts folder in the main Library/Fonts folder to the Desktop then empty font caches using Font Nuke.

There is a 64 bit version is you are interested in trying it. Under Help in the Menu bar select "Check for Updates". Select Insider Fast and it will download the newest version that is 64 bit.

Do you have an O365 subscription or did you buy Office 2016? What kind of installer?

I have an O365 subscription, downloaded latest installer from Microsoft.

I asked when you switched to a new User, did you ever try opening Outlook? I know PP was an issue in the new User, but did Outlook open?

I opened all of the office apps at the same time. Powerpoint was the first to crash, then they all crashed shortly afterwards.

Do you have any virus software installed?

No

When you did a clean install how did you bring back your data? Did you use Migration?

No, I downloaded and installed all of my applications again

Have you ever done a clean install of El Capitan and then tried to install Office without doing anything else first?

Yes, I have and it appeared to work for a bit, then failed. I am doing as you suggested right now and doing a clean install to an external drive. Once that is complete I will install office. How long should I wait before deciding everything is ok and installing more apps?

Download and run Etrecheck. Copy and paste the results into your reply. As soon as my install to external drive is complete, I will try etrecheck

Your error report indicate it's your Profile. It's not the install. You can prove that by testing in a new User.

CREATE A NEW USER

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups.

Switch to the New User by logging out under the Apple in the Menu Bar.

Log into the new User.

You can skip logging in with an Apple ID. Hit continue then skip.

Only Apple apps will be in the Dock.

Go to Applications.

Open Outlook.

If yes, then the problem is with your base files.

If no, then the problem is in your User's folder.

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS usually indicates that your Outlook Profile/Identity is corrupt.

Create a new profile and see if the crashing stops.

Create a new Profile (Identity) in Outlook v15

Add your IMAP accounts and let your data download from the server. Note: IMAP does not save your contacts or calendars. Do you have that data on Outlook 2011?

I installed the 64bit version and I did font nuke, and it still crashes

Your situation is certainly not normal. Let's see if we can find what is causing your problem. Please answer all questions.

So over the weekend, I formatted my internal drive and started again. From the clean install of OS X I then loaded office 2016. The system ran all weekend with no issues. Today I decided to install the Global Protect VPN software so that I access my work network, and within 15 minutes office apps started crashing. I have since uninstalled Global Protect and the system seems stable again. I suppose this is good news, but what are my options for getting this to work on my system?

Aug 4, 2016 5:59 PM in response to tommy1394

Gatekeeper:

Anywhere

This is dangerous. You need to set to App Store and identified developers.

Global Protect(VPN software)

I wonder if this stops the activation process when the Office apps are launched. When you add GP back, verify that the apps still work correctly. You might need to disable in the future if you need to activate again.

Internet Plug-ins:

You have an 2 versions of Flash installed. However, it's now recommended that you completely remove Flash for security concerns. Most videos will play in HTML5 if you don't have Flash installed. If you do need to play a Flash video you can use Chrome. It has a built in Flash player.

Uninstall Flash Player

Silverlight is also a security risk. See How to update Silverlight - or uninstall it completely!
