"Call failed" with FaceTime audio

This used to work... but I don't know why it's stopped working. Whenever I try to make a FaceTime audio call through my iPhone, I get "call failed".

iPhone is on WiFi, same subnet as Mac (both on 192.168.2.0/24) subnet.

Mac is on both WiFi (192.168.2.49) & wired (192.168.2.55) - both addresses DHCP assigned. No problems accessing devices on local intranet as well and other addresses on the good ol' world-wide-web.

iPhone has a DHCP assigned address of 192.168.2.48.

Router, DNS & subnet settings for both are the same.

When my phone rings, I get the popup on my Mac. If I try to answer, I get "call failed".

Update - it DOES work from my older MacBook Pro (again, same subnet, 192.168.2.47)... but that's not used much unless I'm traveling.

OSX 10.11.6

iMac (Retina 5K, 27", Late 2014).

I resolved this issue by switching to the exact same wifi wireless frequency. Most modern routers have two frequencies, 2.5ghz and 5ghz, with there being two different SSIDs for these frequencies. Make sure you are on the same subnet (same router) and on the same frequency.

Background:

- unable to call using Face Time application on macOS 10.13.1

- receive error "call failed"

Resolution: Verified that the time on both devices (iPhone and MacBook Pro) are set to automatic. Then changed my network to the same frequency. My MacBook Pro was using the 5ghz while my iPhone was using the 2.5ghz. After change my iPhone to use the 5ghz, everything worked.

With the update today, Apple didn't COMLETELY fix this issue, but there is a step in the right direction.

Facetime Audio (calling/receiving Mac <--> iPhone) seems (so far) to be working (not verbatin for language, but) "When phone is nearby or away". It even works with iPhone's WIFI turned off just over LTE. I'm assuming the calls go through the iCloud to do their magic. THIS IS NOW WORKING (so far it seems).

HOWEVER, (oddly), it STILL isn't working "use your iPhone when your phone is nearby and on same wireless". This STILL results in "CALL FAILED". So, I'm assuming, its not going MAC <-WLAN-> iPhone, but it IS going through out through the internet MAC <-iCLOUD-> Phone. You would expect the latter to possibly have issues, but not the former. However, that is what I've been getting (and able to REPLICATE). I DONT want to use it as MAC<-iCLOUD->PHONE, I WANT to use it as MAC<-WLAN->PHONE. I don't want my Mac to ring everytime I get a call when I am AWAY form home. I just want to use this feature locally, but it is not working -- and I have tried EVERYTHING possible to fix it. Something is off somewhere, perhaps maybe even just a file permission somewhere got corrupted, but its somewhere deep within the OS.
