TC no longer a part of my network but my wifi network is still working, mostly. What has happened?

Up until last evening I was able to see and edit my TC through the airport utility on my MBP or my iPad Air 2. Now I have received a message in airport utility that says my TC is no longer part of my network and is no longer accessible.

The time machine backup drive on the TC is no longer seen by time machine. I can SMB into the TC HDD through Finder and the folders and data appear to be intact.

Now the question is what has happened to my TC and the airport utility? All help is most welcome. I am running OS X el Capitan 10.11.6 on my MBP and iOS 9.3.4 on my iPad Air 2.

I've been having the same issue over the last few days.

I've tried soft, hard and factory resets, but the TC becomes 'lost' after just a few minutes, even though it can be pinged.

Internal disk can't be mounted, and attached USB printer is no longer available.

Having the same issue, it started today (13 Aug). Tried a number hard resets, the TC shows up for a few minutes and I recover the previous settings. Then after a few minutes it can no longer be seen in Airport Utility although the wi-fi is working. Can't see the 'Data' HDD so no Time Machine backups. I am also using El Capitan 10.11.6.

I am experiencing the same issue, only as of the last day or so. Reading this thread provides some relief that my network has not been hacked. Like most I am running the latest OS version 7.7.7

I can browse the TC data share from my iPad, iPhone and Apple TV, using streaming apps such as File Explorer and VLC. However, I am unable to see the TC from my OS X devices.

I have tried connecting using both wifi and ethernet cable, makes no difference. I have also performed the 'hard reset'. This fixes the problem for around 5 minutes, then once the password is configured etc, it drops off the grid again.

To manage the device is technically still possible, using the Airport Utility app. I select File then configure other, enter the password and I can then manipulate the settings.

I can only assume that this is a bug and there will be a fix on the way shortly.

What I do not understand is that, if this is indeed linked to the v7.7.7 OS why has it just begun to be an issue now, given that it has been released for a whilst now. The issue only started this weekend. When you re-enter the 'back to mac' settings and restart the problem returns.

Hoping for an update to fix this once and for all shortly.

The problem does indeed appear to be Back to my Mac. I did not perform any of the soft resets or hard resets or factory default resets as there did not appear to be any corruption of my wifi network and I was able to manually enter the TC and see the configuration was correct and that the data on the HDD was intact and accessible.

This solution was proposed by La Pastenague early this AM as one of several possible solutions to this problem with the airport utility and the TC.

Thanks all for the help and the interest in solving this troubling incident.

I just spoke with Apple support with regards to this problem with the TC disappearing from the Airport Utility GUI.

Apple support requests that everyone posting who is having this same problem call Apple support so that the proper resources can be brought to bear on the issue and the issue can be resolved more quickly. Currently there are an insufficient number of users contacting Apple support directly about this issue.
