Watch face separated from my watch after 13 months. The widespread yet underreported issue is due to a swollen battery. Apple has actually extended the warranty on these watches to 3 years.

Strangely, all of the questions asked by people with this issue in the support forum are locked. Each has the same reply by the same user Jonathan UK a level 10 (apple employee?)

His reply states, "Apple Watch is not user-serviceable and Apple does not offer a screen repair or screen replacement service for Apple Watch. If the issue is not covered under warranty or any other Apple policy (be sure to ask, with specific reference to potential battery issues), then your Apple Watch may instead be eligible for replacement via chargeable, out-of-warranty service (or via AppleCare+, if previously purchased)."

Is this really helping people who have a legitimate COVERED issue?

I was on a plane between France and Ireland, glanced down and couldn't believe the glass front of my watch had come away from the main strap, only held on by a ribbon? This happened yesterday. Have contacted Apple and have now to get it into a Apple shop, i have been told that even though I have had it for 2-3 years if there is a fault it could be covered by the Consumers Guarantee.

I had a stainless steel Gen 1 Apple watch. After 16 months the face fell off with absolutely no physical damage anywhere else on the watch. I never had it in extream enviroments or ever got it wet. . I brought it to Apple and they agreed that there was no physical reason for it to pop off. Yet still Apole had me pay $339 Canadian to replace it with another series 1 watch.

Now here I am 9 months later and the EXACT same happened to the new watch they replaced it with. I was simply sitting in the car when I felt the watch face pop off and hang by the ribbon cable.

There is clearly a very bad design defect in these watches where the glue just seems to give up at some point.

I am going to an Apple store in a couple days to have it looked at but there is no way I am paying a dime again when this one didn’t even last a year of being treated like gold.

Hi

Contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation with a view to having your watch inspected and to establish your available service options (under warranty, if eligible):

To check your warranty status (the serial number is on the back of your watch):

I had the same issue last night. I was doing an exercise class and had my watch on then I heard a clicking noise. I looked and the watch face had popped out and was hanging by a cable. I wasn't doing anything strenuous at that point. I had worn my watch exercising numerous times and it's been fine. What would cause watch face to pop out? I've had my watch for over a year so it will be out of warranty. I've no other issues with it apart from this. I look after my watch and I've never had it wet.
