Same thing happened to me. I took it to the local Apple Store after making an appointment and they sent it back for repair/replacement. Waiting to see what they do, however I heard they replace and give a warranty on the replacement. It is a 1st Generation and I think that is the one with the problem. Get a appointment with the Genius Bar and take it back. Nothing to loose.

I was on a plane between France and Ireland, glanced down and couldn't believe the glass front of my watch had come away from the main strap, only held on by a ribbon? This happened yesterday. Have contacted Apple and have now to get it into a Apple shop, i have been told that even though I have had it for 2-3 years if there is a fault it could be covered by the Consumers Guarantee.

I had a stainless steel Gen 1 Apple watch. After 16 months the face fell off with absolutely no physical damage anywhere else on the watch. I never had it in extream enviroments or ever got it wet. . I brought it to Apple and they agreed that there was no physical reason for it to pop off. Yet still Apole had me pay $339 Canadian to replace it with another series 1 watch.

Now here I am 9 months later and the EXACT same happened to the new watch they replaced it with. I was simply sitting in the car when I felt the watch face pop off and hang by the ribbon cable.

There is clearly a very bad design defect in these watches where the glue just seems to give up at some point.

I am going to an Apple store in a couple days to have it looked at but there is no way I am paying a dime again when this one didn’t even last a year of being treated like gold.

I’m really upset! I’m home most days and don't wear my Apple series 3 watch (that I got as a gift for my birthday in March 2017 from my husband) as my much as I liked.

I did not drop or bang my watch against anything!!!

Out of no where in Nov 2017 the face popped off and was dangling.

I tried putting the face back into the frame when glass was breaking onto my hand, so I stopped.

My husband didn’t want me to purse it with Apple because he said, “they won’t fix it for free”.

Giving Apple the doubt they would, I took it in for service Jan 2018.

I just got the called that the replacement cost would be $229 because it has phyical damage of a drop(s) or banging it against something. The battery was not swollen.

Now, the watch that I barley wore and did not bang it against something or dropped it, will have an end cost of $658.93

I’m a full time caregiver (for my 95 Grandmother) and cannot wear any jewelry and or a watch during the day.

Shelling out an additional $229 for a “defective” watch, (which I really wanted one) is heartbreaking.

$429.93 was just thrown out the window.

Same thing happened to my daughter's Apple watch 3. She had it for little over a month and came home from school with it in a ziplock bag. She was sitting in class when she said her watch got really warm and when she looked at it, she saw that it was cracked all the way around. Then the face just popped out when she moved her wrist. She is extremely careful with her stuff and has several Apple products with no issues. It makes me very upset that Apple won't take responsibility for this defect.

First, I’m sorry this happen to your daughter. What a huge disappointment!!

I was unaware before taking my watch into Apple that a swollen battery will cause the glass to pop out of the frame. Have you examined the inside of her watch?

When the Apple tech looked at my watch he stated my battery was not swollen. I didn’t think to ask the tech what a swollen battery looks like or to confirm myself that my battery wasn’t swollen before he took it back to be shipped for Apple to evaluate the cause.

Later, I read a couple of blogs that two people stated that their watched would enlarge and then go back down again. I called several Apple stores and they both said that once a battery is swollen it won’t deflate. I thought maybe that’s what happen to my watch because I didn’t take it in to the Apple Store for a couple of months later.

It’s a mystery what caused my glass to pop out of the frame.

I share your same frustration with Apple and the disappointment that they will not replace a (fairly) brand new watch and own up that some watches were made with defects and it wasn’t the end users fault. Especially when one pays top dollar for a world wide brand that promotes them self to be the best.

This just happened to my Series 3 tonight! I had my series 1 for 2.5 years with no issue. The only reason I switched was battery life. I went to check the time and the face literally separated from the case! I called support, stated there was absolutely no damage and she stated they absolutely should take care of it! Let’s hope so as it obviously is defective.

Hi

IThe watch was sent to apple but they have refused to repair the item under warranty Ive been doing some research on this issue with the watch it appears lot of people have this issue and Apple is not doing anything about it and yet they have taken the money for the watch when it was purchased I will be pursuing this through legal means to try and get this sorted out.

My daughter's watch looked the exact same way. She only had her's for 5 weeks and has never "damaged" not one of her 10 Apple products. When we sent it in to Apple, it was determined that she had caused the damage and it would cost almost 300.00 to replace it. I hope that things work out better for you because clearly there is an issue with this product.

Hi

Apple are sending the watch back to me but have agreed to look at it again but I doubt they will change there mind they are saying it’s accidental damage I feel we should all try to get together over this obvious problem with the Apple Watch. I feel Apple are just ticking boxes and making it look like they have tried there best but looking at the amount of watches out there not done under warranty it’s obvious they do not give a dam
