Artist Photos Missing in iTunes 12.5.1

I've noticed a few artist photos are missing since upgrading to 12.5.1. Any ideas on how to fix or refresh? They are mainstream artists, nothing obscure.

I may have found a possible solution (well it worked for some of my missing artist photos in iTunes). I noticed that some of the artists with missing photos had an extra space after their name in iTunes.

So if you go into iTunes -

go to 'artists' under 'library' on the main page -

right click on an artist with a missing photo -

click 'artist info' -

look in the 'album artist' field -

see if there's an extra space at the end of their name -

if so, remove it and click 'ok'.

This has worked for me for most of the mainstream artists in my library, so has got rid of a fair number of those ugly microphone images.

Another point I've noticed is that changing the artist name slightly can determine whether iTunes will display a photo or not. For example 'The Bee Gees' in my library had a no photo even after removing the space. As this is a very mainstream artist, I thought to change the name album artist name to 'Bee Gees' and it worked bringing up an artist photo.

Good luck!

First of all the theory that this BUG is caused by content that is not purchased from the sore is completely false. Of my almost 10,000 songs 90% is purchased from the iTunes store. Absolutely all artists in iTunes that have missing artwork for are purchased content. Furthermore the artists that are missing pictures on my iPhone are completely different. Maybe a purchase causes a refresh, I do not know. But what is absolute is that this is not isolated to purchased vs. non purchased content

You must be very wealthy spending $9,900 for 10,000 songs. 😁 Are you sure it was an iTunes store? Because hundreds of songs I purchased from Apple, the artist is showing on my desktop.

All from itunes and all that are missing are absolutley itunes purchases. And many that are missing in itunes have the pictures on my iphone. Also many that are missing on my iphone I have in itunes. I also never said I spent $9900. I simply saod around 90% of the library are itunes purchases and they are. My guess is that maybe a purchase causes itunes to update the photo. But it is not absolute

is there any way to fix this other than re-purchase? I thought if we had music on CDs that we uploaded to the paid service I Match then it would keep the photos for both album art and artist? I may be wrong, probably am, but I am nearing the point of seeing many other offerings in this space that I don't know if I can justify paying Apple the monthly money for cloud storage etc. What is the value proposition any longer when I can get space anywhere for free or next to free? I love Apple stuff, but it seems they are missing the mark repeatedly on their clunky after market iTunes product and changing it (not for the better in my opinion) as often as the weather here in Michigan. . .

That is incorrect I have Apple Music membership 9.99 a month and all songs, Albums I add to my library dont have artworks, I don't have.... not even 1 album with artwork. Trying to force it using "get artwork" from the dropdown menu doest do anything. It must be a bug from iTunes 12.5.1 I have sent feedbacks to Apple to fix this. Let's hope 😉

Actually this does NOT appear to be an iTunes 12.5.1 issue at all. The Artist artwork is certainly missing in many instances in the latest version of iTunes. But the same photos are also missing in the latest version of the Music app in iOS 10.1. And when I search Apple Music for any of the artists with missing photos in either of these apps the artist photo isn't there either. In a nutshell, Apple seems to be migrating towards both of these apps showing whatever promotional imagery the music labels provided to Apple Music. Which is fine but clearly the service doesn't have such imagery for a LOT of artists. Not to mention how many users don't subscribe to Apple Music so their libraries should not be depending upon that service. At a minimum if Apple Music is missing a photo it should fall back to the iTunes Music Store (which is in fact ... separate). And if no promotional imagery is available there it should fall back to the album artwork. In a nutshell this isn't a "bug". It's a fundamental "design" issue. Just my 2 cents ....

I am not going to dispute about who's issue it was or is, but it was working fine with all iTune versions before the latest one. The Apple store did not change, the new revision of iTunes did. We have had all the artists data on our computer because it was showing when I was offline. That means that the new iTunes 12.5.1 is not displaying it. Unless the new update of iTunes erased the data.

Interesting. I'm not seeing this at all my devices. I'm running macOS Sierra 10.2.1 with iTunes 12.5.1 on my Mac. And iOS 10.1 on my iPhone 7 Plus. I also use Apple Music and iCloud Music Library. And on my devices every photo that's missing in the artist view list is missing in iTunes, the Music app, and the Apple Music page for me. Without exception.
