How do I disable voice control in iOS 10?

Hi. I've got an iPhone 6s Plus and just downloaded iOS 10. Now, when I accidentally hold the Home button too long, it makes a loud pinging sound and brings up Voice Control. I don't want this; I work in a cubicle and don't want to make this much noise, nor do I ever use Voice Control.

I went into Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > ensured Voice Dial was off. If this isn't possible in iOS 10, how do I downgrade to iOS 9.x? Thanks.

i found a workaround. not a really good one, though.

you enable siri (in siri menu).

in the menu 'touch ID' you will find a switch labeled 'voice dial'. switch it to off.

go back to siri menu and switch 'access via lock screen' to off.

now activation of voice dial on lock screen should be gone - try it!

downside: you now have siri switched on. as soon as you disable it, voice dial will be back to previous state... :-(

Looks like you can't disable Voice Control. According to another thread I saw on here, Apple says either Siri or voice control has to be on. Siri is much better, believe it or not, because s/he doesn't PING loudly when you mistakenly activate him/her. And s/he never understands what you say-- so as long as voice dial is de-activated, no harm done!

yes, i did this, too.

but this does not prevent accidental phone calls. or other people making calls without unlocking my phone.

on one hand, the iphone requires more and more security operations to do the simplest things (how many million times did i type my 4 digits code already?). on the other hand, it rests in my pocket and is open by the accidental touch of a button. imho, this is just plain stupid. at least, i want to be able to switch this 'feature' off.

I just talked to the Apple Hong Kong technical support through their online platform... They told me that, (1) you cannot turn off because this is a build-in function since IOS7😠; (2) probably the "voice control problem" is due to your hardware, so, please backup and take your iphone7 to Apple Store Genius Bar for maintainence😠😠; (3) I asked if it is possible to have an option in the future for users to turn off this function, the reply I got is that "there are not much customers encounter this problem" (that means they do not even bother to acknowledge my problem encountered is a "problem")😠😠😠... well, after all, the lesson I learnt is that I will NEVER ask for help from APPLE online platform again, and I think it's time to start looking for an alternative (Android phone)

Please note Apple this issue is NOT solved.

If Apple tell you the "voice control is a built-in function and cannot be turned off", seriously, this is rubbish. If the home button action can be changed from voice control to Siri then the event is captured by SOFTWARE. A simple event handler is needs to capture the button press and check software settings. Impact to rest of system is very much isolated.

This is an issue now with the iPhone 7 and its "3D button". I did not have an issue with the iPhone 6.

The workaround from switching from voice control to Siri is not ideal but gets round the expense of unwanted call making and the endless looping around "voice control" option that you simply don't want. The question I want to know is how did this issue get through testing, QA and client acceptance?

This issue will only get the attention of Apple if enough people complain about it.
