After Updating to iOS 10, contacts have disappeared

After updating my iPhone 6s+ to iOS 10 last evening, something strange has happened.

I have lost almost all contacts. I cannot see them under my phone book. However, If I have a conversation with them via imessage, or watsapp, I copy that number, paste it on dial screen and it picks the contact name up.

After making the call, If i search for the same person in contacts, it does not show.

Probably sync issue? I have checked all accounts that had contacts and all settings are okay.

Can someone help please.

Cheers

Be forewarned people. Every time I do an apple update it creates huge issueS. I did the latest update yesterday on my iPhone and it wiped out half of my contacts NEVER TO BE SEEN AGAIN!

i am convinced that apple is conning us all. My whole business life was on my phone and my contacts were my business. Apple has no issue to resolve according to them. Read all of the post on the internet of people who have had the same issue. There was absolutely nothing they could or would do and was they were no help.

i will ever own another apple product again. Please past this on to all of your contacts and please boycott all apple products.

After research have found the problem & solution.
My contacts are mainly sync'ed with Google.

I have opted sometime to use Google's new Contacts web interface (it may be in "Preview" mode)

Apparently, this new Google web contacts web app is not syncing well or maybe not syncing at all with iPhone.

Once I reverted back to the classic Google contacts web interface, all contacts returned to sync normally and norw all contacts appear in iPhone as they should.

So bottom line, just got on the web to your Google setting, to contacts settings, revert back to the old classic contacts interface. wait for iPhone to re-sync.

I found a way to bring them back. It was because my contacts was using outlook as the default account rather than iCloud. So when i added my outlook account to the Accounts and then went into the Phone app and then clicked on Contacts and then Groups, you can then tell it to use the Outlook contacts. Once i did that the contacts all came back but after about 2 min wait , i think it was downloading them.

This link shows the locations i am referring to. One is in the Settings and one is the Phone App.

Finally fixed the problem!

Contacts -> Groups -> Select "Show All Contacts" -> make sure all email accounts/iCloud are checked -> CONTACTS RESORED!

I have multiple email accounts, and when I went to the Groups tab in Contacts, I found that only two accounts were selected. Selecting all accounts immediately restored my missing contacts.

(Make sure Contacts are enabled in Settings -> Mail first!)

Thanks, this helped for some but not all. I went to my iCloud and they are all gone there too and I know there were in there recently. It ***** to have to have to go back and add names, addresses, and all that other crap that was already in there before update. Plus, I have to use the contacts that I was not using before update, and now I have some back and a whole lot that I don't want on my work phone. A big thumbs down on this upgrade.

look for your contacts app - launch it - look at your top left for Group(if you have sync contact from icloud and emails) - check to see if hide all contacts was selected - look for icloud contacts and email if it was enabled.

i hope it helps you 😊

or

click on settings - select contacts - look for account - check to see if icloud and your email accounts have been added - click on each of them to view if contact options has been enable

i hope it helps you 😊

or

  1. Lauch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap on iCloud.
  3. Find the Contacts toggle. For some people, this is turned to Off. Turn it On again. If asked, tell iCloud to replace your contacts.
  4. If Contacts is already turned On. Toggle it Off and then On again.
  5. If asked, choose Delete from My iPhone when turning iCloud contacts off. Don't worry, they're still stored in iCloud so they'll come right back down. We just want them to bereplaced by what iCloud has saved.

Don't worry about hitting the delete button on your iPhone or iPad. That only removes them from your local device.

(If you want to double check, log into iCloud.com from your computer's web browser and you can verify your iCloud contacts are all still there, safe and sound!)

i hope it helps you 😊
