ios 10 update- home button broken

Hello can u describe more about the solution because I'm currently having the same issue too!! Thank you so much!!

I was able to get my home button working by applying a dap of rubbing alcohol on the home button and working it in with a cotton bud. I pressed in in a circular motion and applied slight pressure on the iPad. After the update my virtual button was back.

hello, when you tried this method how long did you have to hold for? and did the apple sign keep blinking?

Honestly I'm shocked that this worked. I didn't have alcohol so I used apple cider vinegar on a napkin and it worked!! Thank you for this suggestion!!

I have broken home AND power/lock buttons on my iPhone so the above solution does not work. So I figured I should post what worked for me. Once you download iOS10 and get to "Hello" screen, connect your iPhone to iTunes. Under iPhone>Summary page, there is an icon that says "configure accesibility". Click on it and a window pops up, and enable "Speak auto-text" under "seeing" and "mono-audit" under hearing. I THINK it should work with just choosing one or the other or any other options for those with seeing/hearing problems. Click on done, and you see your vertual home button is back on "Hello" screen. Hope this helps.

Hi, never mind about what I posted. I think I have just restored the setting from what I have backed up previously. The trick is that after restoring, you need to unplug the cable from the computer before the phone restarts. To do this, of course you need to have assisted home button set up and have the setting stored somewhere (your computer of iCloud).

I encountered the same issue and after managing to unlock the device with the method proposed here I've setup a soft home button by going to:

Settings -> General -> AssistiveTouch

Switch on AssistiveTouch

And the soft button appears now.

After the update please keep the phone connected and disconnect the internet connection and restore. Afterward turn off the phone and turn it back on. u are good to go.🙂
