iPhone won't sync with iTunes after iOS 10 update - September 2016

I updated my iPhone 6 with the newest iOS 10 software. When I plug my phone into my macbook it says "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone “Katie's iPhone” because an invalid response was received from the device. I have updated my macbook and iTunes, restarted all devices, tried different usb ports etc. Is anyone else having this problem?

This answer reflects the arrogance of Apple. While the answer is basically correct, it fails to acknowledge that many systems are out there that can't do that. Moreover, Apple should also acknowledge that people can't simply update all the time by going to a new operating system, possibly having to buy also new hardware only to resolve some incompatibility issues like this sync issue. Moreover, Apple has deliberately built in these incopatibilities and is therefore also responsible for properly handling these, e.g. by informing the user well. Finally, Apple should not that there are still many systems out there that need to stay with an older OS X. I have e.g. a music studio where hardware and software form together a fully functional system, where it would be impossible to simply upgrade to OS X El Capitan without destroying the entire system. I understand that companies like Apple need to develop their systems. However, what I have absolutely no understanding for if a company such as Apple does not properly warn users from incompatibility. When I upgraded the iOS I received no warning whatsoever that there might arise an incompatibility to sync with the Mac from which I was invited to upgrade the iOS afterwards, while all information was known to the involved software (such as iTunes), which was needed to issue such a warning. Then the time window to downgrade the iOS was so short that I missed it. The result a partly destroyed music studio. An answer from Apple Support such as "Upgrade to OS X El Capitan" shows then not only arrogance and ignorance, but is a clear effrontery from Apple. Me using Apple products since 1985, i.e. having been a faithful user, also intimately knowing Apple products, is systematically turned away from the company. There may come a time I am not the only one not wanting having to do anything more with Apple products, unless, only unless such answers are made with more consideration for the situation users are actually in.

I fully agree. Moving things from one device to another is very basic and should never be broken by a poorly designed upgrade. I will stick with Apple, but only because the alternative is worse. My 2009 iMac can technically be upgraded to Sierra but after an earlier upgrade to Mavericks, I went back to Snow Leopard and those in the know mentioned that the hardware was simply not up to the task.

It is also possible to move video from phone to iCloud, then move to desktop via iCloud on the web. BUT, iCloud will not allow loading video (.mov or .m4a) TO iCloud from desktop. Someone at Apple is simply not doing proper testing or maybe, as suggested, it's a conspiracy to force everyone into expensive upgrades.

Sadly Apple has boldly move forward a more aggressive profit making bussiness model where it absolutely weighted the pro and cos of consumer vs. company growth and decided that compromising loyal constomers and by pushy to force buy their need hardware people are gonna be immediately going to empty their pockets just to be "cool" and "up to date" with the latest tech to fit the cool crown otherwise god forbid you or your wallet don't respond to their coherrsive

That's ridiculous! The same thing happened to me when the 10 update came out and Apple support were useless. I was told to wipe my device and it still wouldn't work. So ios 10 had basically turned my device into a very expensive paper weight. They told me I couldn't downgrade. After a bit of googling I found a downgrade by myself and it worked. I was really lucky to have found this downgrade that worked. Apple still nag me about the new software update which is very annoying.

At least I know I can't buy any new Apple product as it won't sync with my mac. Not that I'd want to after this.

I'm having a different syncing issue. Setup: iPhone 6S Plus 128GB running iOS 10.0.2 iTunes 12.5.1.21 on Windows 10 When I try to sync the iPhone to iTunes, it goes through steps 1 of 6 to 5 of 6 successfully. Step 6 of 6 starts by syncing music. It will hang on the first song. The song file is not corrupt (file synced to iPhone before, it plays fine on iTunes; also, copied the file to wife's Mac, synced to her iPhone 6S via iTunes, and no problem). When the phone had iOS 10.0.1, it had the same problem. I already tried uninstalling iTunes, reboot, then reinstalling iTunes. Any other thoughts?
