"Phone" app freeze on iOS 10

A bug without a doubt that survived last two updates. I'm gathering it is the downside of merging VoIP calls in Phone.app but that's as far as I can guess. Join the club if waiting for a solution.

Also, clean setup of phone does not help. Tried it failed.

I have this problem too, to the extent that my iPhone 6 is becoming almost unusable.

Every time I go to make a call, it freezes.

The message is worse - whenever I type a message, if I go to add a question mark, the question mark key stays up (like a flag!) and the message app is dead.

Pressing the back button gets me back to the menu, but when I go back into Messages, half my message is gone!

Same problem here , i did everything but phone menu is freezing , close and reopen it works. Any solution about it ?

I too have had this issue and after seeing the mention of voicemail I had a check at the greeting. The voicemail greeting had been set to Custom greeting, but I have never recorded one. Set it back to default to see if that resolves the issue.

Add another frustrated user to the list. I use my phone for business, and this is unacceptable. About a day or two from moving to android. I know it's a smartphone, but "phone" is in the name and a basic function of the device that isn't working.

I've now been through apple support and was told to completely reset the phone, then if this didn't work completely restore as a new iPhone - a very invasive procedure that destroyed all my two factor authentication tokens and turned out to be a nightmare. Today the phone froze again just trying to dial a number from the history screen.

Setting the voicemail greeting had no effect. Also attempted to backup, reset and restore the phone with no success. Doing a reset of all setting, not content, did seem to resolve the issue now after a few days being steady. There must be a bad setting that is saved and recreates the problem when doing a backup restore.

For those who may find this helpful. For me, disabling Exchange syncing of Contacts (leave mail, calendars etc as is) 100% stops the Phone app from freezing. I am using Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail and Custom email and contacts on my iPhone 6S Plus with Push everything settings where available and simply only disabling the Exchange Contacts syncing is a reproducible fix -- everytime! Likewise, everytime Exchange Contacts syncing is turned back on, it is also a reproducible Phone app freeze (after long periods of inactivity).

I am having the same issue with my Iphone 5s (running iOS 10.1.1)

The "Phone" App keeps hanging and crashing every single time and this is utterly frustrating as this is the most basic of feature on any "Phone" .

Apple , If you are reading this , please reply to us and let us know what the latest is please? This is getting frustrating to the point that people are planning on shopping for other phone on Black Friday.

If we do this and remove the Contact Exchange Syncing , it deletes all the contacts data from the Iphone and deletes those contacts right? Hows is it possible to do this without removing the contacts ?

The problem has returned. Clearing settings had no effect. Disabling contacts is not an acceptable solution.
