"Phone" app freeze on iOS 10

I have the same issue iPhone 6s 128GB running IOS 10.1.1 - I see alot of people here saying the same things but little comment / input from Apple :-(

I found this on another forum, which sounds like a good idea to me, and has worked for those who have tried it seems, even though I have to say I haven't tried it yet:

"Sometimes, but not always, when there is an update and old system files are overwritten with new system files, file corruption can occur. When this happens you get odd behavior with some apps, or they just crash upon opening and won't run at all. The only way to fix corrupted files is with a clean install of the operating system.

Make a backup using iTunes (remember to use the Encrypted backup feature if you want your health data, wi-fi passwords etc, backed up), and then factory reset the phone. Once you've completed the factory reset and gone through the initial setup of the phone then you can use iTunes to restore your phone (ie; it'll seem like you never reset the phone even though you did)."

This is plaguing me as well. Apple, please fix this issue!

Nope unfortunately this wont work, at least in my case...

My phone was set up as new when ios10 was released (always do that with new ios versions)!

My only way to "fix" this was to enable push for my exchange account...

Apple is working on it.

They even called me (I have my number in the profile here) to get the logs from my phone when the error happened.

So I am confident they will eventually work it out, even if it is hard to wait.

I have also opened a case in apple's bug reporter but the first batch of logs that i sent them contained nothing about the specific crash.

Now i'm tryinf to replicate it to get some more logs and sent them!

Typing in text messaging, mail and an app called Wix have all locked up on me. Usually in the first few seconds. Running 10.1.1.

Any help would be appreciated.

Same issue here. No reaction if buttons are tapped. One time my iPhone 6s suddenly made a call to one of my contacts straight from the keypad screen when this issue came up, very late at night - not cool. Hangup button didn't react. I had to turn off my phone immediately. Issue still present in iOS 10.1.1.

bfein - It sounds like that is the keyboard bug which is different to the phone bug. The keyboard bug appears to relate to the spell checker and can be fixed by turning the spell check off. However spell check does work using 3rd party keyboards so install one of those (I use swiftkey).

I should correct my previous comment regarding 10.1.1 fixing the issue. It doesnt for sure.

Also I wiped and re-setup my phone as a new device and still the issue appears.

It is clear and certain that the issue occurs only when you have multiple email accounts and you are syncing contacts from more than one. I have a few accounts and if I keep contact syncing to iCloud (for example) only the issue doesn't appear. If I add GMail account contacts the issue re-appears.

So the only known to me solution is to keep your contacts synced with one account only

I have the same problem with IPhone SE

Since I upgrade my IPhone 6S to iOS 10.x I found same problem: Phone App often doesn't work. It freezes and only after a lot of seconds or if I hard close the APP it work well.

Have you some suggest?

Ensure in your settings you have only one account using contacts for syncing

Thank you very much GeorgeVI. I have just synchronised only Exchange contacts. I imagine it is a temporary solution, isn't it? It was a bug.

I Have iCloud and Google contacts. And everything works Fine since i canceld syncing my Exchange contacts. ( Email still Running)
