iPhone 7 Bluetooth connectivity with Ford SYNC malfunctions

I'm using my iPhone 7 with my 2016 Ford Fusion with SYNC. The Bluetooth connection worked flawlessly with my iPhone 6S. Today, the iPhone 7 experienced significant connectivity issues, including regular dropouts, dropping the connection entirely, and music just stopping playing. Not a cellular data issue as the songs were on the iPhone. Resetting network settings, turning bluetooth on/off, and dropping/re-connecting to the car did not fix the issue. No equipment or other things have changed except the switch to the new iPhone.

I fully don't expect there to be a "solution" other than a software update or returning this phone, but has it happened to anyone else?

I ended up returning my iPhone 7 Plus (model A1784) and repurchased an iPhone 7 Plus (model A1661). So far the music skipping and random disconnects while on calls is gone. I did a lot more research on these Apple forums before going into the Apple Store and ultimately deciding to return and repurchase. There is another forum that has 43 pages of responses about the same issue. I posted a very long response there and am including a link if you'd like to go there and get more information. It's worth a read as it may help and will explain my logic for doing the return and change in models.

I've been keeping up with everyone's responses since I posted, and I have some adds and observations:

I think this is a Sync problem over an Apple problem. I had it happen this weekend again, and it was with my boyfriend's iPhone 6 hooked up to my car on a road trip. We completely lost the use of the AUX and phone functions, same as what usually happens.

Difference this time is it's been 4 days now and the functionality hasnt returned in my Escape to use AUX or phone functions at all. When I hit AUX it goes back to FM1.

My car says it's on the most up to date version of Sybc as well. So I think it may be a Ford Sync issue where either it isn't compatible with whatever the newest iOS is, or Sync just need a major update for Apple period.

I read a ton of Ford discussions over the weekend as well, and many people are having the same problem - intermittent Bluetooth dropout, AUX functions completely stopping and phone functions completely stopping while using Apple products in their Fords. Some said they've been to the dealer 3 times and it still happens after a reset. Many people say they pull fuse 3 in their cars, or disconnect and reconnect their car battery, and it fixes it temporarily. I tried pulling fuse 3 (the Sync fuse) over the weekend, and it didn't work for me. It has worked in the past.

So those are my 2 cents about the whole thing. I'm stuck listening to radio and CDs right now until I can take my Escape in. Thumbs down. I have the service plan where it's $100 to work on anything on my car electrical or whatnot and have it fixed, but I'm hoping when I can take it in for an oil change I can sweet talk the guys into checking it out for me. I cannot even access the menu options anymore to do a Sync system master reset. It only stays on AM/FM or CD.

I'll update if I go to the dealer. :-)

I have the same issues with 7+. I will be on a call using hands-free in my car. The call appears to be up, when periodically it then shows disconnected on My Ford Touch Sync screen for approximately 10-20 seconds and then reconnects. The call never drops, just the connection between the phone and Sync. My car is a 2015 Ford Mustang with the current sync software loaded. It is the most frustrating thing. I also have the iPhone 6 and it has no issues whatsoever with sync Bluetooth. This is definitely a comparability issue between the iPhone 7 and 7+ iOS software and the Microsoft/Ford Sync software. I have two other cars (both Mazdas) and I have no problem with Bluetooth connectivity in those cars.

I own a 2012 Ford Edge with Siri that will not work with my iPhone 7. I had no problem with my iPhone 5C. I am not sure if it is my phone or Ford's Siri. I use the hands free phone and every call is dropped. I realize that I should not be using the phone in the car and use it infrequently, but when I need it I would like it to work. Any idea's anyone? (Besides not using the phone!)

I've spent 10 visits to the Ford dealer trying to get my 2017 ford escape to work with Ford Pass and some other issues with their Sync. Bottom line is they said it works with every other version of Apple except for the iPhone 7. They claim it is Apples problem. I can't believe that Apple would eliminate a feature that worked on all previous phones

Not only does my 7 continuously drop calls from My Ford Sync, but even trying to access my voicemail from the phone doesn't work. I go to voice mail, tap on the voice mail I want to listed to or call back and the field closes without playing the voicemail. I hate this phone so much, I've contacted T-mobile to order a 6S Plus so I can downgrade. I can not continue to be inconvenienced while I wait for Apple to work out the bugs and have the 7 maintain the same functionality as the 6, its ridiculous for what consumers pay for this phone...
