Mail app crashes after iOS 10 update

I just updated to iOS 10 on my iPad 4 32 GB. The Mail app often unexpectedly quits. I have no problem using it again but it's annoying. Since it's an Apple app, I cannot uninstall & install it again. Any suggestions?

I have been afraid to do that update in case it made the Mail app worse! I was hoping somebody was brave enough to delete the Mail app & reinstall it. Or some Apple genius would help us out! My app seems to crash mostly when it's downloading a mail message from a store, etc. Not a plain text email. But not always. I really like the Mail app. My internet provider's email is terrible & Windows based so I don't use it unless I need to do some cleanup. I dislike G-mail too. So I guess I have to wait to get a newer iPad which will be awhile.

I had this problem ever since updating to IOS 10.0.1 on my ipad. Did not improve with release of 10.0.2. Have turned off mail, restarted iPad. But still, when I open an email Mail will just crash and I have to restart. Did the update to my iPhone 5s and no Mail problems. My iPad is second generation, has worked flawlessly until. Now.

I have a Ipad 2 gen 4. After downloading the latest IOS 10 it started shutting down the app i was in and returning to the home screen. Started with the mail but then did it in Safari and Chrome. I was on the phone for 2 hours with apple support. Made a appointment at the store to restore everything. Went home and had the same problem. Went back to the store. Was told that there was a problem in in the IPad and exchanged it plus cash for a refurbed IPad. Went home and had the same problem on the "new" one. took it back and was told that the Ipad's RAM could not handle the new version of ISO 10. That IPad's generation is only 2 years old. I can't believe that it is outdated that fast.

If that is the real problem then the store should be getting swamped with customers that have the old IPad. I was talked into buying a new IPad Air 2 For $499 minus $90 trade in and got my money refunded for the refurbed unit that didnt solve the problem. Still frustrated by wasting about 14 hours that it took to "resolve" my problem and that doesn't include the time it took for 80 mile round trip to the store that I did 3 times.

The old one was great and worked until the new ISO was downloaded.

I waited a bit before upgrading to the latest version. I did on my iPhone 5. As soon as it opens, it shuts. I posted a question elsewhere and was referred to Apple Support, which immediately said my phone was out of warranty.

Software that crashes after installation is not a hardware issue. I'm seeing this issue that has been raised dozens of times here and elsewehre.

I am very disappointed that all 4 apple genius's that "handled" my problem didn't know that it was a software issue. They all said it was a problem with my Ipad and that it had to be replaced. This cost me $400 plus all the wasted time, fuel and mileage on my leased vehicle.

it has been a few weeks since the update and youwould think that Apple would have issued a service bulletin and press release.

I updated to ios 10.0.2 on my iPhone 6plus and now my mail app is crashing. I get access for a couple of seconds and then it crashes, don't even get enough time to read the email. Have tried reinstalling, flashing, resetting and deleting. Nothing works! Come on apple, people rely on their email heavily for business and their personal life. Hurry up with a fix.

I waited a bit before upgraded on my iPhone 5. Can't recall if the problem occurred immediately after or not. At first I was led to hardware support and was told my phone was out of warranty. Then I got through to software.

The solution (surprise!) was to back up my phone using iTunes, reset it in the original condition and then recover from my computer. This fixed things.

My contacts with support are usually fantastic. This time it was mixed. I was on the phone for 166 minutes. Most of the time was spent waiting for the person to respond. I'd be told to take a step. I've learned in the past not to assume my guess at the next step is right and wait, or ask questions if I wasn't sure. Each time/step there would be silence on the other end for minutes. I kept saying, "Hello? Are you there?" Or ask "which should I select?" only to wait for minutes until the person responded. It was if the person was working with me while working with others or focusing on some other activity. I didn't get a survey afterwards.

So that's the solution. Hope my experience can save you three hours of your day.

HI Rick,

I have not responded to everyone who took the time to post their problems & frustrations with the lack of solutions.

So for everyone is following this forum, I want to thank them.

This solution seems the most logical but an update should just work if all the requirements are met. I haven't even updated my new iMac to Sierra because I don't want to deal with another set of issues. When I have a chance, I will take my iPad to a local place to do this for me. I did update both iPhones, 5c & 6s, but have not used them with the Mail app.

I'm so sorry that you had to spend so much time but at least we all have a solution so your efforts are not unappreciated. No thanks to the Apple experts. Thanks so much for posting, vtsue

There is no fix or solution as written above. My MAIL is constantly crashing since update to ios 10.0.2 on my iPhone 5. It is the same as someone else wrote above. I get access for a couple of seconds and then it crashes. it is not enough time to read the email. Have tried reinstalling, deleting, back up with iTunes and been on 2 support calls for hours on 2 different days, nothing suggested in these threads is any different than what I have already tried, and nothing has worked. Waiting for another scheduled call back. Hurry up with a fix!!
