Mail app crashes after iOS 10 update

I just updated to iOS 10 on my iPad 4 32 GB. The Mail app often unexpectedly quits. I have no problem using it again but it's annoying. Since it's an Apple app, I cannot uninstall & install it again. Any suggestions?

Hi all. I have a similar problem with both my new iPhone 7, and my iPad air.

If I have several (usual more than 5) unread mails, press edit, and mark all unread mail as read, the app usually crashes. For some reason, if I open a plain text mail, and do this, it sometimes don't crash.

i have 2 accounts connected to the mail app, iCloud and gmail..

the problem startet on my iPad after installing iOS 10. The error has always been on my iPhone 7.

Update:

Couldn't wait any longer so I restored iphone 6 in itunes, & added it as a new phone back to itunes. Lost all imessages. Contacts were backed up to icloud so they came back. Had to reload all apps onto phone manually thru itunes.

It worked. All email and imessages work with no hangs. Interestingly, random popups keep coming to log back into emails and then give permissions. Works ok once permissions given - I suspect there is a timeframe for the permissions & then they expire.

So it looks like IOS 10 sometimes needs to be loaded fresh on device & then apps layered back onto system for it to work. This is an OS error, IMHO, & apple out to correct.

HI Rick,

I have not responded to everyone who took the time to post their problems & frustrations with the lack of solutions.

So for everyone is following this forum, I want to thank them.

This solution seems the most logical but an update should just work if all the requirements are met. I haven't even updated my new iMac to Sierra because I don't want to deal with another set of issues. When I have a chance, I will take my iPad to a local place to do this for me. I did update both iPhones, 5c & 6s, but have not used them with the Mail app.

I'm so sorry that you had to spend so much time but at least we all have a solution so your efforts are not unappreciated. No thanks to the Apple experts. Thanks so much for posting, vtsue
