Birthday calendar duplicated hundreds of times on iOS 10

Having recently upgraded to iOS 10, I see that my calendar app has duplicated the birthdays calendar hundreds of times - both on the Facebook calendar group and my default home calendar group. It has also duplicated my default calendar hundreds of times (See pictures below).

The default home Calendar is easy enough to get rid of. I simply hit 'Edit' and delete each one one by one (which is annoyingly slow and tedious, but possible). However the 'Birthdays' calendars cannot be removed or deleted this way. There is no option to delete or merge them.

I've restored my phone's iOS on iTunes, hoping it would remove (or at least merge) the hundreds of Birthday calendar duplicates. However, after restoring my phone's software with a recent iCloud backup, the duplicates were still there.

Is this an iOS 10 bug? If not, is there a way to fix this?

Add me to the list, the problem kept my phone from charging the other night (probably because it was burning battery almost as fast as it could be replenished by the charger).

Interestingly, when I downloaded Google calendar and added my gmail to it the app instantly froze and became unresponsive when I granted it access to my calendar.

When I went to the apple store today they seemed to have run into this problem before, they immediately offered to replace my phone but pretty convinced that its not going to fix it (unless I set phone up as new).

Problem is really unacceptable and really disrupting my workflow.

Yeah I have google calendar app installed too. Although I don't recall it crashing. On install it did ask for access to calendar etc but I don't remember this problem of duplicate birthday calendar appearing in the immediate aftermath. At least I didn't notice it and I do pick up on these things quite fast normally. My iPad running iOS 9.3.5 also has google calendar installed but doesn't exhibit this problem. Google calendar could be at the root but it's clear this is an iOS 10 problem and one that is very frustrating

Either way it is unacceptable for Apple to expect backup restores or force someone to swap out a phone to mask a software deficiency / bug. It's not fixing the problem and is incredibly inconvenient to the users, many of whom have precious little spare time in busy work and family lives to play silly games with their phones all evening

To clarify Google Calendar is definitely not the cause of the issue, however providing google calendar with access to the calendar infects Google Calendar with the issue causing it to freeze when granted access.

And now that I hear that the 10.1.2 beta doesn't fix the issue, it looks like the only way to receive any sort of fix to the issue in the near future is to set up phone as new.

Not happy at all with the situation.

Yes, I'm sure your right mate. It's only because the google calendar app is a fairly recent install in my phone but I'm sure in the aftermath the duplicated birthdays calendar wasn't an immediate issue. I wish I could remember better! But there is no way I am restoring as new phone or restoring backups and messing round with them. Totally unpalatable. So annoyed with Apple as they ignore the issue. The iOS I believe has gotten over complicated and bug riddled. Too many new iOS releases and no time for it to mature. With each new iOS bugs emerge and old bugs remain unfixed and ignored. It's so dissapointing

And for what its worth I just went to the Apple Store and replaced the phone and set up as new and what I found out is that setting up as new also deletes all your previous text messages 😟. Thats a rough hit that I should not have to shoulder due to faulty software.

Still in the process of re configuring email and calendars, will report back to make sure the problem didn't migrate over. I don't expect it will, but if it does we have a defcon level 5 bug.

This is already the worst bug I have ever encountered.

Pretty disgusted at this bug and from what I am hearing the next iOS realease doesn't appear to address it. For some reason Apple do not monitor their own forum to gauge feeling/issues. Suggest we all tweet the issue and link to @AppleSupport on twitter. If enough do they will have to take notice. I already tried and was swatted away with dis-interest but we need some strengths in numbers
