Iphone 7 won't connect to iTunes on computer

I just bought the iPhone 7 and I've been trying to to connect it to iTunes to restore my backup, however the error message "the iPhone cannot be used because it requires a newer version of iTunes" keeps popping up, even though I already updated my iTunes to the latest version available. Is there anything I can do to fix this??

I have same issue and for the previous versions of iphone I used to download from iCloud the back up using 3G/4G, however now it can not be downloaded and you can not do a backup unless you are connected to a high speed WIFI.

I have selected iPhone because it makes my life easier and since almost three days I am trying to find a solution to back up the old data on my iPhone 5s to iCloud and download them to my new iPhone and this really annoying.

Most probably I will no longer be an iPhone user, no value for money.

I have this same problem after updating the software on my 6s so I went into an Apple Store and spoke to an Apple genius who confirmed that as I am running Windows Vista (and my PC cannot be upgraded to Windows 7) I can no longer back up my phone without buying a new PC. Over the last 8 years I have owned every version of the iPhone and despite all the usual friends claims of everything apple being overpriced and overhyped I have stuck by them. In our household 3 of us have iPhones and 4 of us have iPads and due to known issues with apple products failing we have backed every one of these products up on our PC every single week. These full back-ups have saved our bacon on quite a few occasions over the years and even as recently as 3 months ago when my 6s failed completely and had to be replaced. I do not need to do anything fancy on my PC, I simply want to make a backup of my apple products as I know that I will need them at some point. So I find it more than a little galling to be told by apple that I need to buy a new PC especially as I only need it because their products have glitches and are prone to failures. I was going to replace our 6s' with 7's this Christmas but have decided to hold off until the next software update just to see if they rectify this issue. If not then perhaps it's time to start looking at the Samsung Galaxy that everyone keeps going on about and one of the many many tablets that are available at a fraction of the cost of the iPad. It will be a sad time for me as I have been a massive supporter of apple since my first iPod more than a decade ago but I am not prepared to be forced to by a new PC when I already have a perfectly good one. I know that switching will save me hundreds (probably thousands) of pounds, but I will be sad to say goodbye to apple after all this time.

I am very sorry to hear about this Rik1968. Your iPhone 6s was updated to iOS 10.2 when incompatibility struck, is that correct? (We were originally under the impression that even 10.0 couldn't be supported using iTunes 12.1.3 on Vista, but apparently that wasn't precisely correct.) The first version of iTunes that did not support Vista or XP was actually 12.2.0, released on June 30, 2015. It's a minor miracle that version 12.1.3 was able to get you as far as it did. By the way, iCloud is a backup option that would not require a new PC.

I also have a Vista PC that I am very fond of, and "find it more than a little galling" that companies like Apple and Google are ending support for Vista even quicker than Microsoft. On the other hand, there will be no more security updates for Windows Vista after April 11 (and as you probably know, those Windows updates have been surprisingly hard to get for quite some time now), and it sounds like your collection of Apple devices is far more valuable than your old PC. Sooner or later, you will need a new PC.
