My iPad 4 doesn't have the ability read fingerprints and iOS 10 is forcing me to press the home button to unlock. Is there a setting to restore swipe to unlock?

I understand your need to be able to unlock your iPad, as I use mine everyday. I would be happy to help you fix this issue.
As per my understanding, you are unable to unlock your iPad using push to unlock. Based on what you discribed, I do not feel as if there is no other option that to restore. Your iPad dosn't need Touch ID to be able to push to unlock. Just hit the homebutton, and if you have a passcode, it will prompt you to enter your passcode. If you do not, it will let you go into your device. Hope this helped!
I have an iPad Pro and I have to swipe back and forth several times just to get to the passcode screen. Was it too easy before the update so Apple had to change it?
I Don't even have a home button
Same situation with my ipad air. nothing to say with ios 10. too baddddddddddddddddddddd
