iOS 10 notifications won't go away
In the new iOS 10 update I did, my iMessage banner and notifications banners won't go away when I try to slide it up. Does anyone know to to fix this?

Try going to Settings, Notifications, and any particular app. There is a setting that makes it so it doesn't go away. Once your in notifications, and in any app, try seeing if banners are on instead of alerts. When upgrading to iOS 10 it could have defaulted to banners. Hope this helped!
I am having the same issue. The 'banners' appear on my locked screen and stay there until I take action to remove them. I have already verified in Settings > Notifications that my apps are set to Banner and Alert is not selected.
This is very annoying. In settings it describes banners as appearing momentarily and then going away.
Same issue here! I made sure my settings were set to banner, as banners are SUPPOSED to go away automatically whereas alerts require an action. This doesn't apply to just one app either, as it's happening with texts, emails, Amazon notifications, etc. If this kind of extra battery draining is a new "feature", I'd like to roll back my ios version!
I'm having the same problem and it's most frustrating. I have checked that all my notifications are set to banners and NOT alerts. I have also tried restarting my phone but this made no difference. As this is affecting my currently opened apps, as I can not view that section of my screen, my only thought is to remove the notifications all together but then this will just raise another problem of not knowing that you have been notified, so not really the best option. I hope Apple resolves this problem soon! :/
I quickly rolled back to iOS 9 and it fixed all the new bugs introduced with 10. Text banners set to alert on iOS 10 DO NOT go away if you are using an app. They will stay there at the top of the screen indefinitely until you respond to them, click the home button or lock the phone. This is not the intended operation yet this extremely obvious flaw somehow made it all the way through the crack team of beta testers and into the final release. iOS keeps getting worse and worse with every new release. The amount of bugs I have discovered in 10 is completely inexcusable. iOS 6 was the last good version of iOS Ever made.

They work fine for me in iOS 10.
Agree that I hate this 'feature' but what is your confirmation that this is indeed a feature and not a bug? Is this in user documentation somewhere? Also hate the new 'feature' that you have to push the home button instead of just touching. Would love to undo both of these "fractures" in user experience.
This is what I discovered, on iOS 10.11 on an iPhone 6. All the notifications for all my apps are set to 'Banners', thus when I get a notification and I try to slide-to-hide it in a vertical motion, from down to up, it won't work. The reason for this is that the motion is started from outside the notification element, like we did on all previous iOS versions, but on this version you must start the slide-to-hide motion from the notification popup, not from outside of it. Thus, you must first click on the notification and then slide it up.
Let me know if this works, it drove me crazy and I almost thought that this feature was gone.
I swear this is a bug. All my notifications are set to Banners and I've restarted many times. The banners don't go away automatically and if I swipe up I don't get a badge icon against that app plus it is not displayed in the Notifications (or is that Recent now?) when I swipe down from top of screen. Please fix ASAP Apple.
I had this same issue then I went to Settings>Notifications then you see they show you a difference between 'Banners' and 'Alerts'. Some apps have 'Alerts' selected by default, so their notifications don't go away, choose 'Banner' for them and you won't face this problem.
You'd have to go and check each app in the Settings>Notifications area though.
Hope it helps :)
I just fixed my problem which was same as yours. When updating iOS it changed the mail notification from banners to alerts. Go to settings, notifications, mail and change to banners and notifications will appear for few seconds the go automatically. Yeeehaah !!!!
Got it, sorry for yelling. This is very frustrating. I'm experiencing about a dozen different issues, some minor and some not so minor, but all brought on with iOS 10. My phone has become very unreliable. The reason I ditched android and went with apple many years ago was for reliability. That's gone right out the window now..
I get you and that's why I hate updates as they always screw things up but hang in there as when ievrything works it's the just the best. iPhone has great support on the phone which usually does sort everything out !! Good luck
Keep the faith in the iPhone T00LF00L they work really well and in the scheme of things this is only minor.
I swear it is a bug as a lot of people I've spoken to are also experiencing it but do not raise the issue. All my notifications are set to Banners (not Alerts like some have suggested is the resolution) and I've restarted many times. The banners don't go away automatically and if I swipe up I don't get a badge icon against that app which is the most annoying part. Plus it is not displayed in the Notifications when I swipe down from top of screen.
Apple please fix ASAP.
Have you found a solution to this? I get notifications that pop up when I'm using a GPS app for example that won't go away unless I swipe them up which is extremely annoying.
Is the only "solution" to disable the notifications completely?
