CarPlay problems after iOS 10 Update

Ever since iOS 10 my CarPlay functions have been very glitchy, mostly when I got navigation going on at the same time. Here's a few things I encounter:

  • Music freezes (can't change songs, can't tap into the app if I tap out of it, icon zooms in once it gets past freezing)
  • Siri mutes herself when reading texts (only seems to happen when I listen to a text straight from a notification
  • CarPlay itself randomly disconnects for a couple seconds at a time (although it MAY be my wire but it has yet to show any tears)

Also some other pet peeves from BEFORE iOS 10 that are still happening now with Music:

Some radio station genres found in Apple Music on iPhone/iPad/Mac are not listed in CarPlay

Anyone else w/ CarPlay suffering from these problems?

iPhone 6 Plus: Ever since I updated to iOS 10, CarPlay has been a totally wonky disaster. I use a Pioneer AVIC-8100NEX headunit. Problems include the phone slowing to a crawl with only Spotify open (for instance, you can see the phone lag so hard the album art appears a frame at a time as it appears on the phone), glitchy audio, random disconnects, and when playing a song often times the music still plays, but the part of the screen on the stereo where the song info appears goes totally black (the home button and network/signal strength info remain), and then the info comes back on the screen, disappears, goes black, reappears, over and over again. Sometimes my receiver will just totally lock up and I'm unable to use the steering wheel or head unit controls until I reboot the phone completely. None of this happened on iOS 9.x. Steve Jobs would have fired the idiots responsible for this lack of testing and oversight. Totally unacceptable.

I own a 2016 VW GTI. IOS 10 screwed up Pandora. Not sure about the rest of the issues people have talked about but I just did the following:

Settings > General > CarPlay

Select your car (for me Volkswagen is listed)

There is an option to 'Forget This Car'. Do this then re pair your iphone with your car. I just plugged it in via USB and Pandora was working again. Give a try. You have nothing to lose. A lot simpler than going all the way back to IOS9.x :-)

Good luck!

My Honda Element is equipped with after-market Pioneer Head Unit (latest update applied)... things were actually really solid and good at the tail end of iOS 9... but then i OS 10 has brought on all sorts of inconsistent behavior... many of my problems seem to be similar to the problems mentioned here... one other problem that plagues my setup is when I hit a pothole kinda hard... the phone seems to get disconnected... almost in a shake to undo sort of way... I turned that feature off... but I have not noticed a difference yet... too many other iOS 10 problems at the moment.

While still having no luck in my Civic I rented a Ford Expedition and plugged in my phone (iOS 10.1) and it just worked. Little buggy on maps while using directions (it would just jump back to regular map). Then I read some posts on this thread about rebooting the screen in the Civic. Got back today and tried it (hold down the "power" button in the upper left of screen for about 10-12 seconds), it then asked if I wanted to reboot and I clicked yes. Now Carplay is working again!!! Only weird thing I noticed was the playlist icon in the top tab bar is not rendering properly. Everything else now works..

I too am having massive issues with CarPlay since updating to IOS10. In fact both hubby and I have lost complete aux capability on both our cars since updating so obviously a software issue from apple.

I Constantly get the 'Connecting to CarPlay feature followed immediately by iPhone connection cancelled'. This just keeps happening in a loop for as long as the cable is connected. REALLY annoying as all worked perfectly before. SORT THIS OUT APPLE!

Great!

Followed your suggestion (Settings > General > CarPlay > "My car name" >Forget This Car) and also went to Settings > Music > Sort Songs & Albums, then selected By Title.

Now all playlists are displayed in the correct order and not alphabetically. That was the only big problem I had on my VW Touran 2016, now everything works as expected.

THANK YOU!

SAme as all the other Honda civic 2016 users No connectioN no cArplay. Bluetooth for music is okay. When can you geniuses fix this?

(btw HATE Ios10. Music? What happened to the stars ratings? Control panel? Why is it for no reason now on two screens where i have to swipe between them? any other reson than just change for its own sake. ? I think this ipgrade is bs. Used to be youd make a cool device even cooler by SIMPLIFYING & STREAMLINING!?!)

I just upgraded to 10.0.2 and Car PLay is pretty much useless at this point with my brand new Kenwood system. The audio is very glitchy and "skips" constantly. Using Maps for Navigation freezes after a few seconds every time. Also, the phone is occasionally not recognized and is labeled as "unsupported". Sometimes when it is recognized, the mirrored app icons appear huge and then slowly scale back down to the correct size.

I also had the problem in my 2016 Honda Civic where carplay would say the device is not supported in iOS 10. I found unlocking the phone and going to the home screen would fix this. I didn't always want to have to do this, so I thought I would try something since its seems related to unlocking the phone first. I went into the Accessibility settings and then to Home Button. I switched on the option to "Rest Finger to Open". This makes it behave like iOS 9, and carplay now works without having to unlock to the home screen first. I just plug in the phone and it works.

It should be noted that opening/unlocking the phone and *then* plugging in has been working 100% for me ever since I read your first post, crevatis. It's a small-ish sample size (~10 tries), but 100% though. I, too, am working with a 2016 Honda Civic. Fingers crossed. I guess I can deal with unlocking for now until, hopefully, there's a fix.
