macOS Sierra - No Sound
I just updated to macOS Sierra. Now I have no sound what-so-ever.
Checked all the usual things (speakers, volume, settings, etc.).
Is there a macOS 10.12 sound driver or anything that I can reinstall?
Mac mini, iOS 10, null

Went to boot up this morning and the sound was gone again.
I will follow the instructions as outlined by Kappy and update post if anything happens.
Holding down the Command and R keys is doing nothing. Tried with two different keyboards (bluetooth and usb).
Any other way to do this?
Went to this page;
About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
Was able to log into internet recovery. Used Disk Utility (older version) and when done selected reinstall OS X.
It wanted to install a much older version of OS X (10.7 Lion) so I booted out.
Using SuperDuper backup of 10.11 to reinstall 10.11. I will upgrade to 10.12 from there.
Looks like this will be an all day job...
The Disk Utility on Recovery should have been the new Disk Utility not the old one. This indicates to me that you had a bad update. The next upgrade should fix your problem.
Note: you can run the macOS Install OS X Sierra again if needed. Make sure you copy the installer in Applications before you run the installer. Apple deletes the file automatically after running.

Do you happen to know what it's called? I couldn't find anything in Applications regarding Sierra...
in the Applications folder: "Install macOS Sierra.app"
OK Thanks. Nothing in Applications like that so it must have been already deleted, or never put there.
Guess I'll copy 10.11 from SuperDuper and then update to 10.12 from there.
Apple deletes the installer after installing. Good thing you had a copy on your clone.
Just finished re-installing 10.12 macOS Sierra. SAME issue, no sound 😢
Very frustrating.
Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it's your User's folder that contains the problem.
You can use the Guest User or create a new User for testing.
CREATE A NEW USER
Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups.
Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.
Only default Apple apps will be in the Dock in the new User. Go to Applications to open other apps you might want to test.
You can skip signing in with your Apple ID unless you want to test any iCloud features.
Do you still see the issue?
If yes, then the problem is global.
If no, then the problem is in your User's folder.
I'll check, but I was at the Apple Store today and the Mac mini on display didn't have sound either (the mic input also didn't work)...
I have Mac Mini mid 2010 (officially supported) and have same issue. MacBook Pro 2014 has no sound issues. Probably some driver problem. Startup jingle sounds! But after booting into Sierra, no sound output (including internal speaker) works.
Sound working again!!!!! Opened MIDI setup from Utilities folder. I set audio sampling rate to 44.1 kHz and 16 bits per sample (CD quality standard) ...and Voilà ....sound is working again!!!! After that I tried any other rate/bps setting and it works with no glitches!!!!
Sorry.... no sound again after restart :-(
Latest update:
After setting all posible sound outputs to 44.1 kHz/16 bps everything is working OK. Sound is on even after shutting computer down and turning on again.
