macOS Sierra - No Sound
I just updated to macOS Sierra. Now I have no sound what-so-ever.
Checked all the usual things (speakers, volume, settings, etc.).
Is there a macOS 10.12 sound driver or anything that I can reinstall?
Mac mini, iOS 10, null

Sounds promising Luke. I will test tonight and report back.
Fingers crossed 🙂
Thanks Luke, it helped on the older Mac mini but not the new one. Will keep looking into this 🙂
Have you tried to set ALL outputs to same values? My Mini (as said before) failed after restart. I had to set HDMI to same values as internal speaker and external speakers connected to "headphone out" connector. Funny thing is that I have an LED panel connected to HDMI only. Panel has no built-in speakers but HDMI appears in audio devices list hence the HDMI connector is plugged in. I`ve got feeling that sound card driver has problems while different settings for analog and digital outputs exist.
i have the same problem and i reinstall Mac Sierra over AppStore and it work fine now!
Yep.. same problem in my 2010 Mac mini.
After update sound not work -> reinstalled -> works ok.
But.. today I try to watch Netflix and no sound again 😠
Only HDMI seems to work for now.
Facebook video no longer works in Chrome, which Facebook video calls require because they don't work in Safari. Luckily, I only installed Sierra on my GF's MacBook and not mine, so I can verify that under normal circumstances sound works.
Hope Apple fixes this issue soon, what a pain!
The "setting ALL outputs to the same values" bit seems to be the key here. If I do that I get the sound back on my Mac Mini.
Once the machine reboots I have to re-do this, though.
Here's hoping it's resolved in the next update.
Thank you for the temporary workaround. Really appreciated.
Update of all updates of my replies.... :
Sound comes off after restart OCCASIONALLY. Definitive solution (in my case) seems to be setting HDMI to "low quality". All other outputs can be left to whatever you choose. Only HDMI cannot be set to somewhat higher than 44.1 kHz / 16 bps. If you set current audio output to higher values then HDMI is set to the same after computer restart and as a result you get no sound again. That is the time to set the HDMI setting to "low quality" again to get the sound out of "headphones out". There seems to be sound output staying on if you keep all sound outputs on CD quality (44.1 kHz/16bps). Today I found that keeping LED monitor connected via HDMI on or off before starting the computer has influence on HDMI sound output settings after starting computer up.
P.S.: Sorry if my english is crap.
I reinstalled Mac Sierra and that solved the Facebook video call audio problem. Have no clue what happened.
Thanks; I experienced the same problem and your post solved the issue
I had the same issue on my mid-2010 Mac mini - no sound from external speakers through headphone jack. I am also using an HDMI to connect to the LCD. Went into the Audio MIDI Setup and changed every setting (both built-in output and HDMI output) to 2-ch 16-bit Integer 44.1 kHz. As soon as I changed the HDMI to that setting, then boom, the sound started coming out of the headphone jack. Thanks lukefrombrno!
Perfect, thanks, lukefrombrno!
Thank you so much lukefrombrno.
You saved my time.
I had the same problem.
No sound via digital output optical cable.
Be careful to set all sound to the same bitrate..and voila..
Everything is fine now.
Thanks again..
I have sound I can hear but no one can hear me. I use Boom2. I have OS Sierra update. In the output where you select a device for sound output there is Internal speakers and the Boom2Device but it will not stay on the boom2device it bounces right back to internal speakers. Im not sure what else I can do but I really want people to hear me this is how I talk to my daughter and granddaughter on Facebook voice, im so sad...
