iPhone7 Bluetooth issue in the car

My brand new Iphone7 seems to have bluetooth problems in my car. Everything works but the sound drops sometimes (often) when I listen to music. I didnt have this issue wiyh my 6s and IOS10. I tried to reset everything but the problem persists. The iPhone is recognized by the radio inmy Toyota, but the sound drops just as it was a radio in a tunnel.

I provided this to the techs weeks ago, but it seems like there was no headway. So here are the results of my trials for everyone to read:

I work in an environment where I have access to soundproof rooms. The walls are steel with padding and are about 6" thick (solid). These are "dead spots" for wireless in my building, which I surveyed and had to plan around because of the walls. I also work with deploying a lot of iOS devices, so most of my colleagues have an iPhone.

Testing environment:

I tested the area with an OptiView XG using AirMagnet Spectrum XT software. This device and software is used to measure the amount of Radio Frequency (RF) radiation in a given area to troubleshoot issues with wireless, and to help design wireless networks for large corporations. This helped me to ensure that there were no stray 2.4GHz interferers while testing, meaning that the only devices emitting 2.4GHz band RF were the "Devices" listed below (Beats Pill, Plantronics Backbeats, Braven BRV-1) and the phones.

Additionally, I tested the cars listed below in several environments with and without interferers nearby. These were less controlled, however mirrored the exact same results.

Stuttering/Skipping:

To show an example of the skipping sound that I am referring to, please take a look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGHFDRVA958

Bluetooth devices tested:

  • Cars: 2013 Ford Focus, 2011 Toyota Venza, 2007 BMW 335i, 2006 VW Jetta
  • Devices: Beats Pill, Plantronics Backbeats, Braven BRV-1

iPhones tested:

  • iPhone 6s - No problems
  • iPhone 6s Plus - No problems
  • iPhone 7 Plus (AT&T, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (AT&T, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (AT&T, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (T-Mobile, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (Sprint, A1661) - No problems
  • iPhone 7 (Verizon, A1660) - No problems
  • iPhone 7 Plus (Verizon, A1661) - No problems
  • iPhone 7 Plus (Verizon, A1661) - No problems
  • There were two other GSM iPhone 7 Pluses that I trialed, but I don't have the model numbers in front of me to list to provide exact details. Both had issues.

As you can see, the issues are localized to the GSM models using the new Intel modems. This further solidifies the belief that there is an existing hardware issue and not a problem with software, interference, or other manufacturer's devices. I'm not sure what else I can do to troubleshoot with the Apple reps, but after spending upwards of $5000 with Apple in 2016, I can't help but to feel neglected.

Having the same problem with my new iPhone 7:

- Have a 2016 Ford F-150 with Sync

- Verizon iPhone 7 purchased at the beginning of December 2016, currently running iOS 10.2

- Worked fine for the first two weeks, assumed an update created the issue

- Model A1660

- Previous iPhone 5s worked with minimal issues; wife's Samsung Galaxy Mini 6S connects perfectly and works fine

- iPhone 7 doesn't work in airplane mode or with LTE turned off

- iPhone 7 will act as if it wants to connect but no audio before completely disconnecting

- Have tried every hocus pocus remedy on the interwebs with no luck

- May try to return the phone to Verizon for a Pixel

- Have filed a case with Apple

Fustrated to say the least we are dealing with an issue like this in 2016/2017.

I tweeted this at them as well. It's frustrating.

Also, yes. My prior response may have been removed, but some people are having issues with HFP ("Hands free" calling), where many others are on track with this thread about the A2DP audio streaming stuttering. This thread is about the audio skipping and "catching up".

Hopefully that video clarifies the issue. In case anyone needs it again, here is the example of the audio skipping: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGHFDRVA958

I have this issue with two iPhone 7 Pluses, AT&T models. The skipping is present in any app playing audio, and on ALL bluetooth devices I try including my brand new AirPods, a Bose Speaker, and my 2013 VW Passat and my wife's 2013 VW CC.

Apple Chat support told me they hadn't personally heard of this and want me to take the phone in to an Apple Store. I have little interest in this, as going to an Apple Store lately is just painful. That said, I guess I'll go. If nothing else, to return my AirPods and AppleCare on both devices... 'voting with my wallet'.

Your AirPods are doing the same skipping problems that are outlined here? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGHFDRVA958

That is very unfortunate if so, as most people who are purchasing AirPods will be first time Bluetooth headphone purchasers as well. Here is another thread on Reddit where other users are experiencing the "skipping" issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/5k88p9/airpods_audio_skipping/

Today another $45 was charged to my credit card for my iPhone 7 Plus as an installment payment for the apple iphone upgrade program. The phone is defective. I cannot use the simple feature of bluetooth audio in my car without stuttering and audio going out. I refuse to continue paying for this phone and am taking it into Apple Store for refund. If it's a matter of being incompatible with certain cars, the phone is still defective because Apple should have tested compatibility If it is a carrier issue, the phone is still defective because they should have run tests with Verizon, AT&T, Spring and T-Mobile. What's worse is that I sold my working iPhone 6 Plus months ago and now am going to have to find a 6 Plus or 6S Plus to purchase.

I will tell them I need help setting up Bluetooth audio in my vehicle. If they aren't allowed to leave the store, I can show them this thread. I'm pretty sure there is a link to a video that shows the issue.

I've been very patient since buying my phone November 3. I figured an iOS update or carrier update would resolve the issue. As a lawyer who is typically quite aggressive when I feel people are being ignored or taken advantage of, I've showed great restraint in not complaining and taking action. Part of the reason is the time involved in going to Apple Store and troubleshooting. But at the end of the day, Bluetooth audio is a feature that I use daily and it does not work. I do connect via AUX currently but my AUX port does not charge my phone. I use Bluetooth and charge my phone via charger in cig lighter port.
