iPhone 7 battery drain

Hi,

I've recently purchased iPhone 7 and setup with iOS 10.0.1, restoring my Apple ID using laptop from an iPhone 6 which was running iOS 10.0.1 also.

For the past 3 days my iPhone 7 battery has been draining really quickly meaning i'm having to charge my phone at least twice a day and i've been using the phone very sparingly. My behaviors have not changed from Iphone 6 (if anything i'm using apps less due to poor battery drain), but i'm finding the phone battery life to be far worse than my previous iPhone and not acceptable.

I don't use battery intensive apps much such as Music or Pokemon go etc and my highest Battery % drain for past 4 days has been Twitter at 27% then Mail at 16%. i do have location services on for apps whilst using but as i say my general phone behavior has not changed since iPhone 6 and im finding the 7 to be draining very quickly. it also appears to charge slower as well.

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm certain I don't need to run the battery saving ideas that the call centre keep advising me to do.

Thanks

iPhone 7, iOS 10

ok and here is a better explanation of how to figure out if you have a iPhone battery drain problem based on usage vs. standby times...

"How to Test For iPhone battery drain

There is a quick and easy battery life test built into your device, if you do a little bit of math — the Usage and Standby times. Head on over to Settings > General > Usage and check out your times.

Your Usage time is how long you have actually used your device, and the Standby time is how long your device has been dormant in-between the times you’ve used it plus your Usage time. A better name for Standby time would be “Total Time since unplugged.” The key to look for is that your Usage time should be significantly lower than your Standby time, unless you have been using your device every single second you’ve had it unplugged. If this is not the case and your Usage time is exactly equal to your Standby time, you have a severe problem. The bottom line is that your Usage time should be accurate to how much you’ve used it since you took it off the charger.

So here’s the test: write down your usage and standby time, press the sleep/wake button (or lock button, as some call it) to put the device to sleep, and set the device down for five minutes. When you come back, take note of the change in time. If your device is sleeping properly, then the Standby time should have increased by five minutes and your Usage time by <1 minute 3. If your Usage time rises by more than one minute, you have a drain problem. Something is keeping your device from sleeping properly, significantly shortening the time it will last."

I've experienced very poor battery life ever since picking up my iPhone 7 on the day of release and having restored a backup of my 6 onto it. I do not use any heavy apps, just run of the mill mail and browsing mostly. Very little video. I was typically finding that my battery would be showing less than 50% remaining by midday and by 5pm or so would often be prompting to go into low power mode. And this is all with my already having changed my habits and switched background refresh off for ALL apps.

On Sunday, 2nd Oct I had charged my iPhone 7 overnight and woke up around 8:30am. I used the phone for 1hr 26mins (not non-stop) and by 12:02 it prompted to go into low power mode showing 20% (all apps were shut, no background refresh, no hunting for wifi, nothing - just standby). I took a screenshot. 3 minutes later (yes, 3 minutes) it went to 10%.

Now, I don't care whether it is a problem with my particular phone or with a particular batch of phones but frankly I do not have the time or inclination to mess around with trying to sort this problem out; IMHO the phone is patently unfit for purpose due to serious battery life issues that need to be resolved * by Apple, not me * and I have duly returned my iPhone 7 to Apple and obtained a full refund.

I'm now back using my 6, which was last charged 2 days ago and still showing 50%.

So in regards to your post - I unplugged my phone at about 5:45am & am typing this at 9:10 pm. Usage is at 12hr 47 min & Standby is at 15hr 27 min. Have NOT used the phone for anywhere near that time. When I check battery usage for the last 24 hrs, it shows Safari at 44% with 3 min on screen. Next biggest is Facebook at 20% with 33 min on screen. And for the last 6 days Safari comes in at 35% with 1 hr on screen. Safari is chewing up a huge amount of battery while not being used. I had commented on another post about battery issues & have followed this one too. I have done all the proper things (reduce background app refresh, location accuracy, brightness, no raise to wake) and also factory reset my phone (hence the 6 days battery use, not 7) to no avail. Can't delete Safari & then re-install like you can with Facebook so I guess just wait for Apple to release an update? I do have an Apple Watch so not sure if that will affect any of this but I don't use it heavily. Previously had the iPhone 6 which had way better battery life - even when I downloaded iOS 10 for the 4 days I had it before getting the 7.

Here is another TIP I found that worked great to give me great battery life today on my iPhone 7. When i first took it off the charger this morning, I noticed the usage and standby time were both the same even though i wasn't using it....so about 10 minutes after I took it off charger i decided to switch battery to "low power mode".

That worked GREAT and put the phone in standby mode and i am happy to say almost 16 hrs later with 5 hrs of usage, and almost 16 hrs of standby I am at 56% without charging it all since the initial charge! see image.

Tomorrow I plan to not use "low power mode" and compare results.

I do tend to agree that it could be a problem with the iOS 10 as I ran into a similar problem on my iPhone 6 when i updated to iOS 10 and eventually fixed it doing similar things to what i posted above.

Hope this might help some.

As a follow up if I fully charge my iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 10.02 and then immediately turn on "Low Power Mode" the phone goes into Standby mode and the battery lasts all day using it whenever I want. If I don't do this it does not go into Standby mode and the battery goes dead in a few hours! Thankfully I have a temporary fix that works fine but Apple please update iOS 10.02 to fix this problem!

I am having the same issue as the original poster. I have the 7 Plus running 10.0.2.

I upgraded from the 6 Plus which was running iOS 9 (latest version). All Apps and Settings are the same as on the 6Plus. Battery life is easily 50% less than with the 6 Plus. (E.g., it has dropped 2% just while typing this!).

Very disappointed in Apple. Slowly but surely, they are becoming another Microsoft.

Same problem here with iPhone 7 (128 GB). Battery is even draining in flight mode and battery saving mode during the night about 30%. Yesterday before going to bed I set the flight mode (Battery 97%) in the morning the battery was 67% ⚠

Is this a hardware or software issue? Did anybody get feedback from Apple yet (except general battery life saving tipps)?

Same probleme! I upgrated IPhone 6 to IPhone 7 ( 128) and it was not a good idea.

with the same set up and apps and using than my IPhone 6, I have to charge my 7 twice a day against one time for 2 days.

this night in flight mode, I lost 53% (100% to 47% in 7 Hours without using it) !!!!

I had Iphone 3,4,4s,5,6 and now 7, and it's the first time I have issue like this!!

I hope Apple will search what is the problem and will solve it quickly!!!

I saw there are lots of Iphones with the same issue!
