iPhone 7 battery drain

Hi,

I've recently purchased iPhone 7 and setup with iOS 10.0.1, restoring my Apple ID using laptop from an iPhone 6 which was running iOS 10.0.1 also.

For the past 3 days my iPhone 7 battery has been draining really quickly meaning i'm having to charge my phone at least twice a day and i've been using the phone very sparingly. My behaviors have not changed from Iphone 6 (if anything i'm using apps less due to poor battery drain), but i'm finding the phone battery life to be far worse than my previous iPhone and not acceptable.

I don't use battery intensive apps much such as Music or Pokemon go etc and my highest Battery % drain for past 4 days has been Twitter at 27% then Mail at 16%. i do have location services on for apps whilst using but as i say my general phone behavior has not changed since iPhone 6 and im finding the 7 to be draining very quickly. it also appears to charge slower as well.

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm certain I don't need to run the battery saving ideas that the call centre keep advising me to do.

Thanks

iPhone 7, iOS 10

It is absolutely a software issue

I still have my iPhone6 and I'm still experiencing the same issues

One thing I have learned, if I lock the phone each time after using it, the problem seems to go away

I have tried the low power mode, turned off all non-essential notifications and none of that has helped.

Locking it seems to be the key, I checked the settings and it's set to lock after 30 seconds. It doesn't do it automatically

I hope they truly are working to resolve this and not just paying lip service, I saw on our local news that 2 iPhones have reportedly caught fire recently.

This is a serious issue it seems to me

I might encourage those willing to hang in there for a few days as the problem seems to have corrected itself on my iPhone 7 Plus 128gb and now the battery life is fine after initially getting drained very quickly. For a few days I needed to go into "low power mode" right after i fully charged it to save the battery I also tried other fixes that i have posted elsewhere on here (search under my username). Now the battery life is great even without going into low power mode. My wife has the same iPhone 7 Plus in 64gb model and never had any problems with her battery life. I was reluctant to return mine to the apple store for a replacement because i have the JET BLACK color which i like and i hear there is a long waiting list. The other issue anyone returning their phone to the apple store should beware of is make sure they dont give you a refurbished phone. I dont think they will yet because they probably dont have any refurbished iPhone7 or 7 plus yet but beware because they have done that to me before with previous models. I had similar battery life issues with my iPhone 6 Plus and eventually straightened it out without replacement. Are your phones feeling hot when they drain the battery because that is another sign i had that my phone was not going into standby mode. That problem has corrected too and it no longer heats up.

Hey guys,

Same problem, full charge and after 3hrs battery is at 50%

- Battery reports no App activity, still 50% charge remaining and 3 hrs since last charge.

- Restored iOS 10.0.1 but the problem remains.

- Setting it to Airplane Mode to prevent background operations and bluetooth, still draining fast.

- Force quit all Apps, don't even launch any Apps after fully charging it.

- Lock it so the screen isn't drawing power

- Enabled Low Power Mode

- Disabled Siri, Raise to Wake, Motion Effects, Handoff, Fitness Tracking, Live Wallpaper, Ad Tracking

- Disabled Haptics, Sound, Location Services, Find my iPhone, Mail, Notes, Background Fetch

- Disabled Content Blockers, Safari Tracking, Apple Pay, App Updates

- Gets unusually warm when charging

- The phone remains warm even when sitting unused in the inactive state.

Usually it's an App that is the culprit, not the case this time. Nothing has slowed the drain, 5 hrs and it's dead.

This device worked fine the day I got it. Got two days almost of battery life with light use.

Clearly the CPU is spinning on something and burning throught the juice. Gotta be an iOS glitch in iOS 10 or the battery is physically deteriorating extremely quickly.

Hope they find a fix before the puts a ton of cycles on the LiPo battery. May have to go back to my iP6 for a while.

I am happy to report that i had the same problem the first week but now the phone is working great. I am very impressed with the iPhone 7 Plus battery life once it started working properly. Today I am currently at 11 hours plus of standby time with 4 hrs plus of use with 60% of battery life left since last charge. This is better battery life than the iPhone 6 Plus I had.

UPDATE

Took my 7 in to the Apple Store, they did a full factory reset on it and suggested that I don't restore from backup and instead set it up as a new phone. This was assuming that I had some App installed that was causing the background power drain. Note: They pointed out my battery report USAGE time is the same as the STANDBY time, could indicate the phone is not actually going into Standby mode at all. Odd that the times were exactly the same.

After fully recharging the fully factory fresh reset phone and setting up as new iPhone with no Apps installed, it seemed ok. My SIM was still in it, still on 10.0.3, but basically a clean slate.

Ten minutes later the device started heating up again.

The kind folks at the Apple Store swapped out the phone for a new device. (Amazing customer service from Apple, online and in person, first rate support, so impressed how they dealt with this issue.)

Took it home, updated to 10.0.3, installed my Apps ... works perfectly, cool as a cucumber, amazing battery life!
