Reminder notification that won't go away on Sierra

I have a reminder notification that I can't complete. It doesn't appear in the Reminders app as a pending or completed item, it just keeps popping up a notification over and over again.

If I hit complete or any of the "later" options, it always comes right back in a couple of minutes.

I was able to resolve this by removing all my calendars and reminders (they were all iCloud, so I just unchecked the boxes in the Internet Accounts preference pane), quitting Calendar and Reminders, removing ~/Library/Calendars, and restarting Calendar and Reminders. Then I re-subscribed to all my calendar/reminder accounts and all is finally clear.

This worked for me too - after repeated chats with Apple Support we weren't getting anywhere, then I tried your suggestion and it worked. Thank you!

The solution provided did not work for me. I unchecked reminders in iCloud, in Internet Accounts, and in iCloud Drive. Within a few seconds, the reminder popped up again. I've noticed that if I remove the reminder from the notification pane, it takes longer to come back, but it inevitably does. I've also notice this problem only occurs with my recurring reminders, i.e. reminders I have set to remind me weekly, etc.

This problem is occurring on my MacBook Pro, late 2012.

Ok, so, a) I have no idea what a tilde means in this context. b) I have searched the contents of my hdd and cannot find any folders named "Calendars" in any "Library" folder. c) Finder does not provide me with reference to a folder named "Calendars" either. d) Neither my calendar app or reminders app are running.

I'm unsure whether this matters, but I'm not having a problem with notifications from the Calendar app, but from the Reminders app.

OK. Try this:

  1. While holding the Option key down in Finder, click on the Go menu at the time and choose Library. That will open up your Library. It's hidden by default to prevent people from accidentally messing with it.
  2. In there you will see a folder called Calendars. Drag it out to the Desktop for safe keeping just in case you want to put it back in again.

Then see if that fixes the problem (with Calendar and/or Reminder notifications). Your calendar and reminder content should resync from wherever it is syncing from - iCloud, Google, etc.

Unfortunately, this still did not work for me. I deleted the calendars folder per your instructions (after I backed it up to a flash drive) and restarted my calendars app. The problem notification immediately popped up again. I also lost all my calendar and reminders information. I ended up replacing the calendars folder and regained all the lost information, but the notification is still hounding me, despite the fact that I have deleted the reminder entirely from the app.
