iPhone 7 GPS constantly changing in Maps

Is anyone having issues with GPS on the iPhone 7? In Maps, my "location" (i.e., blue dot) is jumping all around my current location. It doesn't seem to be getting a lock on my actual GPS location. I have noticed that it also affects other apps that use GPS.

I have the same problem. My iPhone 7 doesn't show the correct distances with the runtastic tracking app. It always shows a 10% longer distance and the track is zig-zagged in a random manner.

Just called apple support (in Germany). At first they tried to tell me that it wasn't allowed to show a precise GPS position by law. After that strange attempt to make me believe the phone works as designed, they finally suggest to reset the phone and restore it from my backup. Has anybody tried this and was it successful?

I tried it, and btw I set up several of my 4 phones as new phones without restoring from backup in order to have a completely "clean" phone to test with. It didn't help.

I get very angry when I hear that they tried to tell you a fairy story about GPS position and the law. I used my old iPhone 6 and my (several copies of) iPhone 7 in parallell for a long time and the iPhone 6 always worked better and recorded runs with good precision.

Anyway, I've given up exchanging it and use a Garmin watch for running now.

As I'm the resident expert of all things Apple my mom explained to me that her GPS stopped working on her iPhone 7. It never seemed to know where she was. I reset some setting and the problem persisted. She took it to the local Apple Store and they performed a full system reset, the problem persisted. I compared her iPhone 7 to my wife's iPhone 7 and they were both reacting the same way. The GPS seemed to be off 200 yards southe east. This made the phone give the wrong starting directions and will not work correctly. Seems to be a common issue. My iPhone 7 plus locates within 10 yards or so. Any ideas on how to fix this or get the phones replaced? Not really a reply but wanted to add to the conversation.

My GPS on my plus works perfect and is on Verizon

The two GPS systems that do not work are on Sprint and AT&T. What funny is they locate in almost the exact same spot just not the correct spot. I would say is not a carrier issue. The software/hardware seems to be triangulating the position wrong. We are based in northern IL.

Today, I finally got a new iPhone7 in exchange for my "old" one. Before restoring it from the backup, I was suggested to only setup the runtastic app and explicitly not putting all the other software onto the phone. This is what I did and right after I went for a 10,4 km run to test the tracking of this new phone.

It didn't help at all. I ended up with 11,5 km on runtastic and the same zig-zag track on the map. Very disappointing! Now restoring from backup, and probably no longer using runtastic as it makes no sense at all. How could Apple advertise the iPhone as to track routes for runners providing such an amazingly poor GPS device? This is not like Apple used to be. Sorry.

I've had my iPhone replaced (because of another issue related to a clicking display on force touch).

My new phone still has exact the same problem.

So far I've tried various different apps to find a software solution.

I've noticed Strava does gps tracking or cycling pretty well. Might be related to the speed or to it snapping it to nearby roads.

I've tried iSmoothRun for tracking runs. Looked a bit smoother but on export to Strava the original GPS data is sent which is still jaggy.

ISmoothRun does seem to have an interval setting that might help. I'm still in the middle of testing that.

I'm also waiting for Strava's Apple Watch update that promises to use the Apple Watch gps stand alone. I've tried the native Apple Activity app to track a run with my Watch series 2 and it seems to be a bit more accurate.

I haven't tried Runkeeper standalone GPS Apple Watch app because it is full of bugs and almost more annoying than a jaggy GPS measurement.

So no, no solution yet. Hopefully 'iPhone 8' will be normal again.

My iPhone 7 was working fine until this Wednesday 2/22/17. The GPS on my phone suddenly stopped working. When I tried to search for a place to get directions, it can locate the current location. However, once you hit "Start Route", then blue dot starts jumping and cannot track the route while the car is moving so there is no direction given. This happens to both google map and Apple map. For Waze it's even worse, it keeps saying "no GPS reception". I just do not understand why it stopped working all of a sudden when it was working fine on Tuesday 2/21/17. Just want to see if anyone else is experiencing same issue. I am located in Los Angeles, CA. I already did the reset privacy & location and reset network but nothing is working.

Same issue with me,

The best example is open: Find iPhone, and you will see how the location blue point jump, I also sent a video with it to apple support.

I tried everything soft, hard reset, restore from backup, restore as new, etc, etc..., with and without wifi,

After multiple contacts, call and chat with apple support, a Sr supervisor requested to access my phone to perform some test and the phone is fine, they got a log of the problem from my phone and it is a "Location Crash"

The worse thing is, I was in contact with apple support since jan 14 and not solution yet, they only said " we are evaluating your case with our US Engineers", but no answer from apple to my last calls or emails i, it is really frustrating

I recommend you to open a CASE with apple support ASAP and keep in contact in this forum with the progress

Do you have any solution from Sep 2016?

Update for my GPS problem: I made an appointment with the Genius Bar at Apple Store this evening. The guy who helped me ran a diagnostic on my phone to see if it is software issue. After he checked, he said it's not software issue so it must be hardware. Then he just gave me a new phone. I got the phone and restored it to my last backup. I tested the Google map and Waze and also check the Find my Phone and the phone's location is working and not jumping around. Just make sure you backup your phone before you go in so in case they replace your phone, you can restore it to the previous verion.

does the beta program help? I have an iphone 7 plus 128gb silver and I have this problem with rogers. I did not have this problem with Telus.

I tried some of the solutions in this thread and even took it to Apple for diagnostics. Short of getting a new device I have done everything else.

I am updating to a beta version of 10.3 to see if its a software issue.

Will update.

Same problem was reported here, but it happened that it was solved by an update from beta version of IOS 10.3 (from beta4 to beta5). GPS is working again on my Iphone7. This confirm that it was a software bug from Apple IOS and not a HW issue or an app issue. IOS 10.3 include new functions like "Find my Airpods". I suppose the "location" code was reinstalled to support this new characteristics and it corrected GPS problems too.
