I posted a similar question earlier today. (view discussion) Seems it has to do with switching between desktops or full screen apps (any and all combos thereof). Doesn't matter what app apparently.

I disabled my gestures for swiping to other desktops/FSApps so i don't accidentally forget. I am not running any FSApps, and now use only one desktop. Can still use exposé for apps or single app. This solved the random logging out problem... but oy, what a pain.

Apple please fix soon!!

I also have this problem and have been working with Apple support to try to resolve it. For me it happens whenever:

  • I try to take an app to full-screen mode
  • I try to animate between Desktop Spaces using the mouse (two-finger swipe), trackpad, keyboard commands, or anything else that causes the Desktop Space to switch.
  • I watch a video in full-screen mode

I think the unifying thing here is the automatic switching to a different Desktop Space, including for full-screen. Interestingly, if I navigate Desktop Spaces manually, usuing Mission Control, I'm successful in switching.

Of note, this is only affecting my account. I created a "test" account and everything works fine. Apple thinks it's something that's loading during my unique login and we're working on isolating the problem.

If (when) I get a resolution from Apple, I will post here. BTW, you may want to create a "test" account and try going to full-screen mode with an app, and navigating spaces. If it works, you've isolated the problem to some idiosyncracy in your account.

I posted a similar response on this thread---sierra full screen bug---which appears to describe a similar problem.

BTW, I've already performed the reset SMC, NVRAM, and PRAM, as well as numerous other "system" fixes, without result. If I get a solution from Apple (we're supposed to talk again on Monday), I will post it.

Right. So I have had this problem ever since I updated to macOS Sierra as well, and I have found that it is always triggered by tapping the trackpad with three or four fingers while in fullscreen mode on some applications. Considering that three finger gestures are related to swiping in between different desktops, It is probably related to that.

Please fix or I'm buying a PC, Cheers.

At Support's request, I submitted a full log report to Apple, about a week ago, and am awaiting a response. I will touch base with them tomorrow and, if/when anything useful comes back, I will post it. I'm convinced there is a plist file that at the heart of this but can't determine which one. If there is no solution, since other accounts are not affected, the only alternative would be to create a new account and migrate to that. I'm hoping to not have to do that.
