Flickering on Netflix after Sierra update

Since updating my MBP 13 yesterday there is a massive amount of flickering when watching Netflix in full screen mode. Updating Silverlight did not resolve the problem.

Has anyone a possible solution for this?

Thanks

Because it has been more than 2 months since I observed the problem and I reported it via Apple feedback, but it is still unsolved, I decided to contact AppleCare.

They were very helpful and friendly, and they finally identified the problem:

The flickering appears only when the subtitles are on and it happens every time the subtitles appear on the screen. If you disable the subtitles, or if you watch a scene which has no subtitles, there is no flickering.

They told me that they are working on this and it will be fixed in a future update of macOS. They were not able to specify if it will be fixed in the next update or afterwards, but it will be fixed after all.

Fingers crossed. 🙂

I've just updated MacOS to 10.12.2 and watched a full Black Mirror episode (1 hour) with no flickers. I've spent the first 40 minutes without moving the mouse (after that I moved for only brief moments). I've also turned the lights in my room off and on to see if the brightness had something to do with this issue, but apparently everything's fine now.

The changelog for this MacOS version can be found here: About the macOS Sierra 10.12.2 Update - Apple Support. There's an entry that says "Resolves graphics issues on MacBook Pro (Late 2016) computers." - hopefully other models and the Netflix issue is also included in this.

Owner of a 2015 MacBook Pro Retina as well (13-inch).

Hi all,

I've been a lurker since early last month with the same issues since I updated to Sierra. But I had a genius bar appointment set in early November, and they deemed it a software issue like everyone has figured out. They reinstalled Os X El Capitan for me and no display flickering occurred. At the time, I didn't know if I switched back to Sierra that it would start the flickering again, so I did, and the flickering started once again. I went back to the genius bar just to have them reinstall El Capitan, and now all I experience on Chrome and Safari is an initial quick flicker when I start the fullscreen (both on Netflix and Youtube). Along with luminosity flickering in Netflix. I'm afraid of reinstalling Sierra, because I don't want to go back to the constant flickering, but hearing that this new update may have solved the problem, I am tempted. Is anyone else successful with the new update?

Thanks for this whole forum btw!
