logd high cpu
MacBook Air, macOS Sierra (10.12)
on my computer the logd process began consuming lots of cpu after one of my programs got stuck.
I think this process may record all kernel errors, so it's working as long as something is going wrong, a program or a backup or download or whatever.
PS: if my english is bad, please excuse me, I'm trying my best.
I had this very same problem right now, in my iMac with Sierra: Very high logd load after Chrome 55 "Snapped"…
I came here looking for solution too. MacBook Pro 2010. However I do have Sierra 10.12.1 installed and have logd at 137+% I haven't found any unresponsive processes. About to re boot.
Hi,
In my case I think it may be due to the Mac 'checking' my TimeMachine Backups. This is taking a very long time, I'm just letting it run to see what happens. Will update when finished.
Sorry, this is not it. After the check was done, Time Machine initiated a completely new backup, this run for about 24 hours, but logd remained running. Now it's gone after a reboot.
I've experienced this issue with MBP early 2015 with macOS Sierra 10.12.2 and fix it by forcing quit for chrome, then restarted chrome and the issue didn't appear anymore.
Reset your system management controller if you have high fans. For the issue of the logd, It means another process is logging too much. Open Activity Monitor and see what looks to be spamming the most. For me, I had many instances of "Google Chrome Helper." Quit instances unless it is a system process.
Yeah it definitely seems to be caused by another process than logd itself. In my case, it happened again and suggestd even if it had only 30% of cpu was the source of the issue. When killed, logd stopped consuming CPU... It's weird that we never had such an issue before. There must be something new in Sierra ...
Shutting down Chrome also reduced logd CPU usage to pretty much nothing. I suspect it's some sort of plugin, JS, video player... I might try Chromium or Chrome Canary instead.
Thanks!
Notification Center was stuck here as well (checked by clicking on it and it wouldn't open) so I killed it and logd usage went down immediately (and now the tray works again):
sudo killall -9 NotificationCenter
sadly the logd program isnt the issue because its a processor so you have to scroll down and around looking for spammed cpus, usually i just delete the mds_stores and that fixes my problem but its not always the case
you have usually four root programs on your computer you cant get rid of but if any of them are running high its a usually a sign that some other program crashed and is constantly running with out u knowing so when u look for the cpu its not always gonna be a high cpu count it could be something very very minuscule and pathetic so all its gonna be is trial and error
good luck
I had the same issue—Google Chrome was the culprit.
