Mouse problems with display port 1.2 in MST (4K display)

With macOS Sierra, there is strange thing with 4K display connected via DisplayPort in DP 1.2 MST mode (required for 60Hz refresh rate).

As the screen is split into two sub screens in this mode - mouse behaved differently on every half of the screen. It seems that right side of the screen has mouse offset of around 50 pixels.

With standard DP 1.1 mode there is no such phenomenon.

This was after 10.12.3 update, and this morning still ok.

The only thing i did different with this update was I ran the mac-pixel-clock-patch-V2 for Nvidia cards and intel GPU. This patch makes 4K/3840x2160/UHD/2560x1080/3440x1440 resolutions possible on older macs over both HDMI and DisplayPort. Was it something apple fixed, was it the new nvidia driver or maybe the patch I ran to fix my HDMI tv.

All i know is that the problem would show up 30 seconds after waking from sleep, and it's done the sleep wake cycle at leasts 5 time and I have yet to see the problem.

The patch

Guys, the mouse pointer is NOT a hardware issue. The issue appears on the boundary of the MST split and also it appears to show the "last" pointer so its very likely an issue with some kind of memory allocation issue where the osx gui render engine is caching the pointer and isn't updating it properly for the two screen halves.

I have several monitors hooked up and the cursor is correct on all screens except the right half of my MST display. The mouse pointer icon isn't "updated' each tick, instead it updates when there are mouse events that trigger the icon change.

If the problem isn't happening for you, great, but don't claim this is a hardware issue and try to dismiss this issue as that gives Apple ammo to ignore this critical issue. The rest of us are actually suffering from this problem and I seriously hope it gets resolved as professional graphics / CAD is nearly impossible with this kind of problem.

In 10.12.4 Beta (16E175b) it's still NOT solved...

Looks like this will not be solved. It looks now that Apple will not willingly fix this. Either engineers are not aware of this or it simply doesn't affect too many people to be "significant" enough.

The only hope is that maybe someday other changes might mitigate this issue.

Very sad, as it mainly affects working professionals.

It has definitely something to do with DP1.2 (60hz). Try to switch to DP1.0 (30hz) and the problem is gone. That way I was able to work in the last 6 months. Its not the best solution because of the 30hz but it works.

My hopes are waning with every update 😟

Hi pxlr,

no, unfortunately no changes with 10.12.5.

I switched my Dell UP2414Q back to DPI1.2 and as soon as it was in energy save mode for the first time, the problem reappeared. So back to DPI 1.1.

But you had deleted your post, so it's still existing with your configuration as well, I assume?!

There seems to be nobody interested in that issue at Apple. :-(

Best regards, Lars
