Cell Data Usage after upgrading to iOS 10.0.2 has increased dramatically

Hello:

I have noticed a HUGE increase in cell data usage by my phone (iPhone 6s) after updating the iOS to 10.0.2. I had not changed anything since before the update. Within a few days after updating my phone's iOS my cellular data more than double from the 15 days before the update! I went from under a GB to 2.2 GB in two day period. I am only allowed 2.5 GB by my company. Wifi Assist has been off. I am connected to a wifi most of the time, all day at the office and at home in the morning and evenings. I have not changed my phone use habits nor have I down loaded any new apps. I also did all the reset stuff after I downloaded the update such as turn on and off, hold the home and side bottom until the little apple shows up.

I looked under the cellular section in settings and noticed a few things that are consuming much more data:

Facebook: I had Facebook cell usage turned off. However there was a large amount of data used. I also, by habit, only check Facebook when I am at a known wifi spot such as home or office. This was below a MB before and close to a GB of data in the 2 day period.

YouTube: Same, had cell turned off and only look at it at home.

Maps- Never used it yet there is data usage.

messaging- HUGE amount of data used. Normal usage for me. in the past the amount of data was under a MB. Now it was 65 MG in 2 days,

Siri- I don't use Siri as in "hey Siri" or using voice commands. I will use this from time to time for voice to texts.

Accuweather. Same.

That is it as far as apps I use, the rest is systems stuff and e-mail. I have uninstalled almost all apps except for the few I need such as my train ticket and scheduling aps and mail hope to halt this. I wont be sending any more imessages either.

Any one experience anything like this?

iPad, iOS 9.0.1

If your cellular data is OFF, how is it possible that you're racking up any data usage? Or are you referring to Wi-Fi usage?

If you are referring to cellular data usage, have you looked at which app is consuming the most cellular data? This is shown under Settings> Cellular> Use Cellular Data For: The list is sorted by app name, not usage, but you can see under each app name how much data it has used since you last reset the statistics. Chances are it is not iOS but is an app that is having a problem, in which case you can disable cellular usage for that app (or others, or all).

Exactly the point as to why she started this thread, isn't it?

I too have turned off mobile data for all my social media apps (the likes of Facebook, Snapchat, FB Messenger, FaceTime, etc) and I did a little experiment which started yesterday. I took screenshots of the mobile data page in settings (the last section where you can toggle mobile data between off and on for individual apps) which shows the amount of data usage for every app in your iPhone till date. I used Facebook Messenger's video chat for a couple hours at night over my home wifi which has no issues at all and I made it a habit to keep checking for the wifi symbol at the top left of my iPhone to make sure it is present instead of the 4G symbol and it was. I also checked that mobile data for Messenger was turned off for good measure. True enough, when I checked my mobile data page the next morning, Messenger's usage has increased by 1.3gb over last night's video chat.

Called my service provider and they told me it wasn't their **** problem and they won't reimburse me for this heinous tragedy in the most polite manner. Told me to call Apple which I just did and they recommended a restore + backup. Not sure if it will work but I'll give it a shot at least.

I reiterate that I have made sure mobile data for all my data-hungry apps have been turned off and that I am always on wifi when I am using those apps. My wifi is 100% working else I would know because I have macbooks and PCs at home which rely on the wifi.

For the past 2 years on my iPhone 6 I've used half my data per month (2GB Verizon Plan). I then upgraded to iPhone 7 and everything was fine in October. Same usage. Fast forward to November and by 11/15 I had 22% remaining on my plan. I had updated to 10.1.2 as prompted. My plan resets on the 8th of every month. From there I literally turned my phone into a paperweight till it reset again on 12/8. I am currently at 88% on 12/14 and have 25 days left till it resets again. I upgraded yesterday to 10.2. Figured it couldn't get any worse lol!
