iPhone 7 Microphone Cutting Out

I have a new iPhone 7 Plus 128gb running iOS 10.0.2. During phone calls, both speakerphone and handheld, callers tell me that while I'm talking, my voice will cut out and they hear garbled static (btw, this happened before updating to 10.0.2 as well). It is like wind noise in sound. Sometimes it works without issue, and other times it doesn't. After a call is ended, I can call back and the caller says that they can barely hear me, but the static is not there anymore.

I am in the process of restoring the phone to factory settings to see if that will fix the problem. But it really sounds like a hardware problem. Does anyone know of this problem being similar to yours Or one that you've heard of?

would you think that this is a hardware problem rather than software problem?

If it is a hardware problem, should I work with AT&T where I got the phone or should I try I do a warranty replacement through Apple?

There is a microphone on the back of your phone, at the top right next to the flash. It's a tiny pinhole. Make sure that isn't covered by a screen protector. It has to be completely open. I had a glass protector partially covering mine. Removing it, solved my problem.

Well well well, it will be interesting to see if the problem is resolved. Mine is a RG 32gb on TM. I have the problem of people not hearing well what I am saying while using this extremely expensive piece of equipment. I like what someone else said about this issue, it should be a great phone firstly, them have cool functionality toys added to it later. I left the Samsung Note 4 for this iphone 7 plus when I could have just as easily picked the Galaxy S8. Matter of fact, if this issue is not resolved upon 11, I will be giving this phone back to TM whether they want it or not. I find it deplorable that so many of us had to suffer this out while the big apple decided on whether or not to throw us a bone. This should have been recognized and handled within a month of its occurrence.

Furthermore, while I'm certain that some people will fall for the sympathy card being played, I find it in very poor form. I seem to remember not too long ago when the head was still around issues like this being solved overnight. We lost our whip cracker. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. Relying on customers to troubleshoot issues is just, well, sad if you ask me. Aside from this issue I really like the phone. Maybe I should have said that? And I would not go back to samsung, probably, and never said any such thing. To imply such, is again, pretty sad I think. Even while I like the camera on the samsung slightly more.

So, lets all throw the big A a bone and allow them to fix things in their own time, while receiving a paycheck and we'll continue to loose our clients and friends because we have a top piece of technology that can't do well what the first bag phone from motorola did well, and that was to make a simple phone call and be heard by the other party. We are asking to much, I apologize....

Feeling better now? Good :). Not trying to be funny but really, you should relax a bit at times ttttttaaas, it's not all that black & white. All will be well soon with iOS 11 (at least I have been assured), perhaps you can focus after the update with your amazing fervor on world peace or such ;) (that was actually me trying to be funny). Take good care my friend. Soon our mobile lives will be amazing again (yes finishing with a funny pun, I did that!).

Hi have already posted the same problem with

My iPhone 7 same problem when replaced

I suggest that we wait and see if ios11 fixes the problem on current phone before rushing out to be the first with new model wait and see if

There are problems after couple of month then decide if worth the upgrade these phone cost a great deal of money although we all use them as a mobile pc the primary use is as a telephone so after alll the years handsets have been out they should work properly for what the were origanally designed for I will not be the first to buy an 8

Until I'm sure the basics are working just for fancy

Don't you think we've all tried the approuch with out any solution, this problem is not solved by chats to real people' its Apple accepting there is a problem they will only do that if enough people complain and they feel it may impact on sales

lots hope the they out it out with iOS 11 other wise there sale's may be effected

Hi sevvie1,

In my direct experience with AppleCare Apple has exactly done that, accepted there's something faulty and trying to find a solution.

And still nowadays ... talking to people is the only way to get things fixed. "Apple" is nothing without it's people. There's no 'entity' or such engineering and producing these products, it's just people. Let's stop with all this conspiracy thinking. Apple has no interest in selling faulty stuff. Makes no sense. But sometimes it's less black & white as some people here like to make it appear. I believe so.

For now I like to see if the senior AppleCare guy that I have been in contact with for quite a while, is correct about iOS 11 to fix this issue. I sure hope so.

When you read all the posts in this thread, there is much said about Apple that - when thinking badly - could be censored a long while ago by Apple already, but hasn't been done. It's still not 'China' here ;)

Maybe you are a bit too jumpy and is there another reason for what you think has happened. Censoring by Apple of messages posted by Apple users in their Apple communities platform (for discussions, opinions and more) ... it really makes no sense in many ways if they would censor fairly normal posts and opinions like yours are as well, don't you agree? I just try to keep it rational. But feel free to do what you think that needs to be done from your perspective. :)

All I posted was that a most recent "version" of their iphone software I was trying out was ineffective against the audio issue we are having issue with. I guess it was the "B" word. I have a copy of the email they sent me too if there is a way I can forward it to you also. The email is in my posession now along with cached pages that were affected. Apparently when you are talking about beta software it is to be done "only" in that forum.

Furthermore, I find it most helpful to others coming in and reading about peoples findings. Direct help from me in that forum would have to be billed at at least $2500 an hour. That is what I charge anyway, for a company of this stature.

Wow again then, I would not have expected that.

Perhaps you can quote and post the key message of that email here, why Apple found it necessary to apply censoring as you say.

I think when I remember that post of yours it was about that you said that the beta made your phone lagging (not fluent) or such and that the mic-cutting-out issue was still there. In a later post you said that this lagging (not fluent) issue was ok again and that the beta felt perfectly smooth as well. But according to you had not yet a fix for the mic-cutting-out issue. I think I replied to that, that I prefer to wait till the final iOS11, before jumping to conclusions as I am not a user of betas and it's a beta for a reason (not officially final). And I have thanked you for your effort to already have tried it with a beta and share your findings here.

Quite a normal thread of posts I think indeed. Would be at least be 'worrysome' if such a thread has censoring at any point. Maybe someone f.ck.d up something?

😳

I agree talking to a real person is often a good way and perhaps best way to of resolving individual issues, however

when major problems arise these are not resolved by one to one chats' I worked for many years to competitor of apple "Moto" one of the original inventors of mobile phones and complaints regarding products and the repose was based on a percentage bases any think under 3% was based on customer or individual faults, that was before the days of social media so manufactures now have to respond to media as it may effect sales and company image ,Samsung for example , like most people on here I have had iPhones for years plus associated products,Since the problem with sound cutting and distortion iv spoked to lots of friends who have iPhones and they say funny you should say that people say that I sound garbled,I see lots of people talking into the end of the phone perhaps they have the same problem, we should bear in mind that these phones cost a great deal of money around £650 here in the UK and we all have the right to complain ,I usually upgrade to a new iPhone as soon as there available but when I 8 is available will leave for a few month to see if faults are fixed and feed back on media.sales of hand sets have fallen dramatically here in the uk as as people are keeping there existing phones
