Random screen flickering while watching videos.

So whenever I go to watch Netflix or Youtube, the video will play fine, but about 30 seconds after it playing, it flickers the video across the screen or dims for a second or two, and then go back to normal. This issue started happening when I upgraded it to OSX Sierra. I wouldn't find this a big deal if it only happened once or twice, but it happens every 30-60 seconds on Netflix and youtube. I tried restarting my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) with no luck. So, does anyone think they have a potential fix to this? (P.S. Yes everything is fully updated)

I have contacted Apple by phone and they say "we don't know anything about problems like you describe". I think that's a little arrogant and to easy. I have a 2000 dollar laptop which cannot playback Netflix normally. It's unacceptable, I thought that it was fixed by resetting de NV ram with the support engineer by phone but a few minutes later the problem seems to persist.

On Monday I will contact Apple support again because I won't accept this.

This has always been an issue for me, both on my 2015 MBP 2.8, and now my 2017 Macbook 1.4 but only in the Google Chrome browser.

It seems like a compatibility issue between Chrome and OSX. The hardware acceleration setting didn't help at all. It doesn't happen all of the time but it happens 25% of the time maybe. Gifs, videos etc. Reddit, youtube etc. Refreshing the page a few times fixes it. Sometimes it stops on it's own.

Apple support just blamed it on Chrome and told me to use something else. It's just annoying and I wish there was a solution other than to switch browsers. I like Chrome a lot and I'd rather not have to change to Firefox just because of this one stupid problem that I'm sure can be fixed on somebodies end.

Hello everyone, I am also a 13" Early 2015 Intel Iris 6100 Macbook Pro user who also suffers from the same problem as you guys, mainly YouTube (Opera Browser,) and Discord. Stuff like that mostly happens whenever I do some moderate, if not heavy multitasking. Shot out a post later today, a user by the name of Kappy recommended that I reset my entire Mac, and it obviously did not work out. We should definitely shoot out a report to Apple to fix this bug by the time Apple releases macOS 10.14, if not earlier.

I’m having the same problem. Only Netflix as I can tell. I use safari as my browser. I’ve also noticed the snow- black and white static screen when I first open my MacBook after not having used it for a couple minutes. I have the 2017 MacBook Pro with touch bar. When watching Netflix full screen, it will go black for about a half second and then go back to normal and repeats every 20 seconds or so. Suggestions?

Hey there! I have been facing this exact same issue with probably the same MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015, 128GB SSD). You can check my comments in these threads:

So far, no solutions. But I've been using Firefox for Netflix playback and I didn't face any issues.

Nearly a week later, and no news, unfortunately. All we can confirm is that this is happening with Early 2015 MBPs, as seen in these three threads:

Firefox has been running very well, but I'd still like to watch Netflix in Safari. I wonder, is there any way we can reach Apple for a better support in this issue?

Sorry to hear that the problem is back! Here's a summary of what we've got so far:

Issue

- Netflix flickering

- Netflix videos rewind like a VHS for about a second

- Happens in medium intervals, from 30 seconds up to 2 minutes

- Happens exclusively on Safari and on Chrome fullscreen

- Moving the mouse to the top of the screen to show the menu bar (hence not being full screen)

- In some devices, changing the resolution from "default for display" to "scaled" and selecting something different than default removes flickering

- Reboot in recovery mode, NVRAM reset and SMC reset didn't work

- Only "solution" so far has been playing on Firefox

- Affects mostly 2015 MacBook Pros, but we have reports of 2015 MacBooks (12-inch) and 2011 MacBook Pros (13-inch, non-retina)
