My iphone had been stuck for at least 2 hours and after i followed the first 3 the steps you mentioned, i magically started working again!!

On a iPhone 6+, press the power key and the home key for 15 seconds.

This worked and took a moment for the phone to boot back up

Thank you so much for this post. Just had to push the lock and volume down button and it immediately restarted with no problems. Phew!!!

Ah ha! Eureka!! This helped me out. Thank you for this. I was only trying power and volume up button and power and home button combinations until I read this and It worked right away.
