GPS issue running Nike Run Club with Apple watch series 2

I have my Apple Watch 2 setup with the Nike Run Club app. On numerous occasions I have tried to run without my iPhone (6 running 10.0.2) and for some reason the GPS does not appear to be working. While I can log runs, the pace/time is completely off and it's not capturing GPS data as the maps don't appear in the app once I log and submit the run. Also, I would assume the GPS isn't working since the pace is so far off. It seems to me it's logging the runs using the accelerometer which hasn't yet been calibrated as I want to be able to log the runs using GPS. I need help. Has anyone else had the same using while trying to use this app? I bought the watch to replace an old Nike+ band, in the hopes I could run without the phone, but it's been an uphill battle making it work. Has the Nike Run Club app not yet been updated to fully utilize GPS data from the Apple Watch?

I ran into the same issue as well, but then I discovered that you need to enable "Advanced" mode. (Scroll down the screen where you start your run) I don't know why this isn't the default mode!

Anyway, don't expect it to track your long runs... I used NRC+ on apple watch to track my NYC Marathon run. I ran 26.2 miles. The app crashed after 6 miles with no GPS or Pace data tracked 😠 Luckily, I tracked my run on Strava on my iPhone as well... since I didn't trust new Nike+ app.

The problems I was having with my new Nike+ Apple Watch was when using the Nike Running Club app. After the run the GPS map information was spot on, perfect, but all other information was way off the correct measurements. Average pace time was wrong, total distance was wrong and displaying "Splits are unavailable for this run" which happens on every run. This information is very important to a runner. I've going crazy trying to correct this problem to no avail. Hopefully the Nike+ run club 5.1.0 update fixes these problems. I will make another entry when testing this update. Cheers.

Which watch did you use to get it to work, a regular Series 2 or the Nike+ Model?

I am trying to see the map of my run with my Series 2 and went through all the steps you describe. I even see the map outline on the watch itself after my run!! However once I check in the app or in the website, no map to be found!!

I start to think it is not possible and a limited feature to the Nike model... have a look here:

"After finishing a run, you will be able to view your route summary.

For a more detailed map of your GPS run, follow the directions in "Nike+ Run Club for iOS (Mobile)" or "My Activity" section on this page.

Note: Route summaries are only available for runs completed on the Apple Watch Nike+. The Nike+ Run Club for Apple Watch Series 2 and, Apple Watch must be connected to a mobile iOS device."

I bought the Nike+ branded Series 2 Apple Watch and also run outdoors without my phone. The distances seem approximately correct, but the maps are consistently wrong. Either the starting location is wrong, the ending location is wrong, or both. I have seen this happen on pretty much every run, even on different routes and in different cities. The map errors are not trivial. They are sometimes off by 1.5 miles. I reported this to Nike. They suggested removing and reloading the app, then restarting the device (standard IT advice). This of course did not help. They said they'd report it to the "team" for investigation; however, I haven't heard if a fix will be forthcoming.

I just got my Nike+ series 2 watch today and suffered the same problem.

I went to a park that I've been running at for years, so know the exact distances of and the accuracy of the Nike+ app registered what I know to be a 2.5km circuit as 2.1km. Very infuriating when it messes with your pace/distance.

To see if it was a problem with the watch or the app, I then ran a second lap using the stock workout app, and it came up exactly as expected: 2.5km, so it's not the Apple Watch, it's a problem with the Nike+ app specifically.

It did log a map of my route that I could see once I'd synced the run with my phone, but this was also inaccurate, marking my starting point hundreds of metres away from where I actually started.

This is very infuriating seeing as I waited for the Nike+ edition of the watch because it's main purpose is to use the Nike+ app, but yet the Nike+ app doesn't seem to work on the Nike+ Apple Watch. How ironic.

I think that it is a Nike+ problem, so an undesirable solution is to start using a different app. A huge pain, but at least it would yield accurate results.

That's exactly what's been happening to me. I have the same watch, Nike+ Series 2 and from "DAY 1" the GPS measurements have been inaccurate every time and split times is always unavailable. But the one thing I don't get, is before my Apple Watch I was running with a tomtom watch that synced to the iOS Nike+ app and every single stat and Map was 100% correct. So Nike+ app works perfect for other running watches except the watch that Apple/Nike have put out. Craziness!!! Apple should be putting MORE pressure on Nike to pick their game up. Went to Apple Store today and they said my watch is perfectly fine and it's a Nike issue. So the only thing I can do is wait for a Nike+ update that will correct this sloppy release.

Update

After suffering the watch for 2 months, I finally gave in and returned it to Apple and although reluctant to refund at first, after some discussion and fab customer service refunded me in full.

The Nike app despite several updates just still didn't work half the time (one time it would and mapped the run, the next time no map data at all. Very hit and miss). I had contacted Nike several times and got nowhere fast. No other apps (other than the Apple one, which doesn't allow exporting etc) using the built in GPS yet and the other functions of the watch are pointless well to me anyway, I don't need to be able to write a text one character at a time on my wrist!

Anyway my argument with Apple was as follows: - Apple have linked with Nike for this release and a major selling point of the watch is this app and built in GPS. Therefore I have been mis-sold the watch in a way...as none of this works as advertised.

I wasn't expecting to get very far with this tbh and was looking at a hefty loss at getting rid of the watch via Ebay...But very surprised when offered the refund...Great customer service, and in my mind an acceptance of just how flawed this Nike link up has been so far.

Looking at a Tomtom Music/Cardio Spark 3 at less that half the price now....Can't see a negative other than its ugly!

Good luck if anyone else tries the refund, probably dependant on the store and mood of the manager at the time I suspect.

That's exactly the same problem as mine. I went to Apple to complain and they did a diagnosis on my watch and found nothing wrong at all. It's definitely a Nike+ Problem. Apple did suggest a tip to possibly correct the inaccurate GPS readings.

Haven't tried it yet because I'm still disgruntled over this whole disappointing watch. I bought a running watch and ended up getting a watch that receives text messages.

Every 5km run I do, the GPS tells me 4.74km, 4.67km and 4.80km. This would have to be the most inaccurate running watch I've ever owned.

Just to add a follow-up to my previous post: I went on my second run using the Nike+ app today, and it actually worked really well.

I followed the advice of turning on calibration within my iPhone settings; not sure if that made any difference. But the watch tracked and mapped my route very accurately this time.

The pace that it told me I was running was very erratic at the beginning, when on not changing my speed, the pace showed ranged between 3:30/km and 5:30/km. It seemed to become more reliable a couple of ok into my run. That is perhaps why Nike hides the pace from your watch face by default. But with the route being tracked accurately, and I assume the timer working properly, I'm actually very happy with how this second run went.

If I have time, I'll follow the remaining steps to calibrate the watch, so hopefully that'll fix any further problems.

After my first run I was feeling very dejected, but after this second one I'm actually very happy. And for everything else my watch can do, I seem to be one of the few people on this thread glad to have bought it.

I started out using the Nike run app too but it was way off on accuracy. I now use the workout app on the watch. just completed a 4 mile run today and on a known distance course. it recorded 4.02 miles on the 4.00 mile course. I can live with that. I really do not think the Nike app is up to speed to use all the watch's tools yet. I just got tired of trying to get it to work.

First time using the watch to run... I push "start" on my watch in the Nike so called integrated app and after a moment, I realized the watch is not tracing my run. So disappointing.

To start a run using the Nike+ Run Club app, do not "push" on the Start button - just tap on it.

The same principle also applies more generally when using Apple Watch.

Unless an app specifically requires a firm press on the screen to access a particular function (as when using the 3D Touch feature on iPhone models that support it), screen-based buttons on Apple Watch should be tapped on rather than "pushed" or "pressed".
