HI Dale, Since your battery drain problems are unresolved, can you please try the process I outlined under "Short Summary" on Page 3 and let me know how u go? If it resolves the issue we can make a strong case that the bug is related to corrupt settings... When following steps pls be sure to be on iOS lower than 10.0.2, then backup and "Download Only" the 10.0.2 Update in iTunes (By connecting USB while online).. Backup, Reset All Settings, Reset Network Settings, then Restore & Update (and restore your backup at the end of the restore). if u follow this procedure I am particularly keen to know if u get promoted for a "Carrier Settings Update" during the restore and if the process fixes your battery life on iOS 10.0.2..

Hi weeasle,

I am going to try your method having already downgraded to ios 10.0.1 last week.

The thing is that every time I restore the iPhone I have to download again all the apps and they are a lot!

I have not understood if I have to backup before resetting all settings and resetting network settings or after.

In the super-short version you say backup before resetting

In the short version you say "iTunes Backup" after resetting.

Thank you!

Roberto

I went to My Apple Store Laval to see a Genius about the battery of my iPhone 5 that was draining, they checked the Hardware of my iPhone 5 and everything was OK. They just said : try reset Network setting, if not enough, reset everything !!! and if you restore from your backup, you may reintroduce the problem... TY very much Genius !

Hope your solution works !!! Trying it now...

Hi Roberto... I backed up after resetting all settings and resetting network settings.. You make a good point, even though it may take more time to change all your settings back after the upgrade, it will be safest to backup (and restore from backup) at factory default settings - because at this stage we don't know the exact cause of the bug, but I strongly suspect it is network settings related.. but to be safe reset all settings and network settings and then backup and follow steps below... please let us know here how you went - quite a few ppl are reporting success getting their battery life back following this sequence:

* Be on 10.0.1 or below (downgrade if necessary)

* Reset All Settings AND Reset Network Settings (in Settings-General-Reset)

* Backup in iTunes (If prompted to Download and Update, select "Download" (only) so 10.0.2 ipsw update is available but not installed (do not proceed with update)

* After iOS download completes (mouse-over spinning circle in top-right of iTunes to see download status) re-Connect USB and in iTunes select "Restore iPhone" (As long as the ipsw downloaded, you will be Updated to 10.0.2 during the Restore)..

* Near the end of the Restore & Update process, hopefully you will be prompted to "Install Carrier Update" (This seems to help)

* Probably a good idea to use iPhone for 24-48hrs on 10.02 to observe battery life before changing settings significantly..

HI Binaire101, For me neither Resetting All Settings and Network Settings worked.. The fix came by downgrading to iOS 10.0.1 then resetting all settings and resetting network settings and then (after backing up) doing a Restore

iPhone in iTunes - as noted in the post to Roberto, it was necessary to answer "Download" (only) so that the .ipsw for 10.0.2 was available so that after the resets (all & Network) the "iPhone

Restore" was in effect a Restore and Update (to 10.0.2 with all & Network settings at factory defaults... That was the magic and the only thing that fixed my battery life and believe me I tried everything else...

Hi Everyone - Please see my reply to Roberto - In my instructions there is one error - The backup should be carried-out after resetting All Settings and Resetting Network Settings. So that during and after the 10.0.2 iTunes Restore & Update, settings are all at factory default (importantly also Network Settings at factory default)

Hi Weeasle,

your suggestion worked quite well for me. Had 18,5 hrs standby incl. 2,5 hrs usage when arriving at 18%. This is a silver line at horizon but still far away from Apples 10 days standby-time printed in the tech specs to the iPhone 7...

I am still fighting with interrupted or garbled phonecalls.

Also I am happy to report that after verifying for 48hrs that my battery life was normal I changed all my setting back to how I had them (before my first update and all the battery life drama) and battery life is still good on 10.0.2.

Well... winner winner, chicken dinner! This worked. I reset all settings, then reset network settings... backed up 6s to my computer... updated through iTunes... restored back up. Went to bed at 97%... woke up 7 hours later at 94%. I've been actively using the phone this morning for over an hour and only now got below 90%. iPhone is cool as a cucumber too.

Time to do the same process with the 7 other devices in the house that are having problems.

You need to be patient folks, but this DOES work!

Weeasle: Now I have a problem.

When you said there was an error in your instructions (although I was quite sure I did it the way you described to Robert at first place) I found myself confused and thought I'll better repeat the process...

I downgraded to 10.0.1, erased all settings and network settings, made a backup. Waited for 10.0.2 update to finish DL. Restored the iPhone via iTunes to the backup.

This time I had NO message about a carrier update!!

I'm confused again.

My question is: Does a network carrier update survive the process of restoring an iPhone? Is it at a safe place somewhere in the phone? When I check for it in "About" I'll get the carrier version (German) Telekom 25.1. Which is the latest after checking with Google.

So do I need to worry about this?

Or is it enough to worry about having only 18,5 hrs standby with 2,5 hrs usage when arriving at 18%??

TIA, UliK
