Poor Reception iPhone 7 Plus

I recently upgraded to the iPhone 7 Plus and I am getting horrible reception, people can't hear me or I sound muffled, (I had no issue on my 4S or 6 Plus). My provider is the same, Bell Mobility in Canada, and I'm using the phone as I did the others, there is also no case on the phone. I've noticed the signal bars all over the place at times, I know those are not an exact science but they've been very erratic. For the most part I can hear whom I am talking to, but people have a hard time hearing me, has anyone else noticed poor call reception on their iPhone 7 Plus or have a fix for this issue?

I'm in the middle of downtown Atlanta, practically next to an AT&T cell tower. Had constant problems over the past month w/ very low signal strength, dropped calls, and erratic signal strength (4 bars then 2 bars then 1 bar then 3 bars). Lost track of the no. of calls to AT&T tech support. Tried everything - including restoring phone to new phone status. Nothing helped. Once I made this setting change (Settings>Cellular>Cellular Data Options>UNCLICK "Enable LTE") the signal strength immediately jumped to 4-5 bars.

Same problem. United States, Sprint. I work out of my home and have always had full reception with my 4s and iPad. I can see the Sprint tower when I walk out of my house. Now it erratically jumps from 1-3 bars and people complain that I am cutting out or that I "sound like I'm far away inside a box." Currently the phone is useless as a phone (and useless as a camera as well, but that is another story).

IOS 10.1.1 Supposedly current as of November 14, 2016.

Having the same problem. Everyone I speak to on my phone complains that they cannot hear me, my voice is fading and my calls drop. This is my second phone, 7plus. Still having the same issues as my first phone that Apple replaced. Really regretting my switch from the 5s, even though I waited for this phone to come out. Can't see paying what I pay for this phone and not being able to talk to my family and friends. Headed back to the Apple Store this weekend.

There's an obvious problem here, all anyone needs to do is search the web or this Apple Community Support Q&A. I have owned and used every iPhone ever released, starting with the iPhone 1. I upgraded my iPhone 6 to the new 7 about 3 weeks ago. It's a business phone and the company has been with AT&T for many years now. I'm in sales and we are on the phone most of the day between incoming and outgoing calls. Almost every call, my customer's are reporting really poor connections, very muffled or it sounds like I'm under water or in a tunnel.


The iPhone 7 is clearly exhibiting problems with reception and clear phone connections. The microphones are all working fine on the phone and when I unhook my lightning plug Apple headphones, the reception/connection for my customer's always improves.

What is the issue here and what is a solution other than trying to exchange my new phone?

Let us know how this turns out. I have been to the Genius Bar three times and I am on my third iphone 7 Plus. I can't even order a pizza without the person hanging up on me because they can't understand what I am saying. And don't tell me it is a problem with my carrier! When I swap sim cards with my iphone 6 Plus (that I use with another carrier and use only internationally), the same problem exists. It's the iphone 7 Plus! It does not work for making and receivig phone calls that can be understood. Apple! Help us!


I got a call from the third genius bar when I left them a bad review with Apple Customer Support. The person at the Apple store said he would research my problem further and get back with me asap. That was two weeks ago!


Apple, help us! I have been a customer and supporter since 1984.

I just got my 7 Plus and was so excited!! Loved it!! But....phone calls broke my heart! They said I was muffled, breaking up and just could not hear me! Going back to Verizon store today and returning it! Thought about trying another one but after reading these complaints, I think not! Not sure what I will get! May go back to my 5S since that worked fine! Thought maybe it was the larger size of the Plus but now I see the 7 is also a pain! So discouraged :(
