iPhone 7+ hissing noise
I seem to have an issue with my IP7+. It's hissing when under load and the noise is also picked up by the microphone when recording videos. Any1 else with this issue? Apple seems to be keeping quiet about this

Yes I have been having this problem for a while in my new 7+. I live in a country town, so no where near an Apple Store 😫 I'm glad to see it seems to be a common problem, but so frustrated after saving up for such an expensive phone and all my videos are ruined! I'm sick of hearing the static and if I touch the screen to zoom or lighten an image/video quality, there is a constant tapping noise ON TOP of the painful static also. I got told it was the life proof case, however it does it without the case also. I tried also folding back the plastic screen protectors as read on another forum it can distort the sound also.... made no difference 😡
Seriously over it but need to drive 4hrs to get to an Apple Store 😓
Trying to upload a vid of it here but the clip won't attach? Keeps disappearing after conpressing?
Hi,
same here from Italy, Iphone 7 plus 128GB black .
Recorded video presents an high pitch static noise (around some KHz frequency) plus high volume white noise.
Keeping my hear on the back of the phone i can hear some buzzing noise too.
Audio quality in video was very low and, after searching around about this problem and understanding that this is a wide spreaded problem, i decided to return back the object for a refund.
Apple care does not recognize or expresses about the problem and under my issue id they described the problem as "A problem with those who feel the sound distorted when you make a call (iPhone microphone)."....
Absolutely false (recalling the support i asked them to modify the problem description but they didn't).
According to me the problem is related with the mic loop gain that's coupling with switching circuits noise becouse of a bad pcb design and/or bad hardware design.
Another problem i've noticed about the iphone 7 plus (but it will be present in the 7 too i argue), is related with fast light changes during videos: the camera is not able to smootly change the exposure to compensate the light change, but it applies a "stepping change", that's really bad compared to competitors and iphone 6s plus.
Have you actually contacted AppleCare about this?
yup, multiple times got different replies ranging from will be fixed by a software update which seems unlikely as this is a hardware issue to first time I hear about it.
I only had the phone for a week so can still return it no questions asked but not sure if this is a wide spread issue. There are a lot of articles about this but no mention of a response from apple.
Don't mind getting a new phone as long as it doesn't come with this issue.
The other problem is actually getting my hands on another phone with the limited stock it's proving to be a challenge. I've been trying to reserve one for the last couple of days but nothing has come up.
Only way to find out is to get the new phone.
Hi cinek2!
Hi have the same issue. iPhone 7 Plus 128 GB, in Italy. Friends have too. I wrote to Apple Support on Twitter and they confirmed the issue is under Apple review. I also called Apple Care in Italy and made an appointment at the Apple Store next week. It's a serious issue. The noise (hiss of gain control probably) is almost the double respect the iPhone 6s Plus I still own. I made a test in the same environment and played both the videos on the iPhone 7 Plus. The difference is clearly audible. I tried also to restore the 7 + but with no changes.
Hope that Apple will fix that with iOS 10.1 because if it's not software, it's a mic gate!
Let's say that is shameful to have such an issue on a mobile phone which costs, in Italy, € 1049!
Hope to be useful.
Bye
I'm having the same hissing, as well as calls cutting in and out, on a new 7. (not plus) Searching for answers here. Was at the local Apple Store two days ago, and they acted as if they hadn't heard of this problem. (I didn't believe them.)
I have the same issue with a new iPhone 7 Plus. No hissing from back, under stress or not. But when filming a video there is a non-stop hiss as if there's nearly freeway. There's a lot of talk here about it: http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/static-noise-when-recording-videos.1999038/
It seems to be a mic problem because the hissing stops when you use the icon the included headphones. Most people are exchanging their phones, with a great many (but not all), getting the same problem with the new phone. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.
bought a new phone today - instead of replacing in case it had the same issue and it does indeed have the same issue. Noise wise I'd say it's fairly similar to my current one so will probably be returning the new phone ;/
I have the same issue with my iPhone 7 Plus (128gb). Almost every video I record picks up the hissing sound 😟. Apple Support told me initially to bring to an Apple Store. At the store, they gave me a replacement, but when I got home I noticed the replacement unit also had the hissing. I called Apple Support again the same day and this time they had me run a diagnostic and send the crash report to them. Currently, the Apple engineers are still looking into the issue.
Side note: If you're bringing in your phone to the Apple Store to replace, but sure to take a video recording with the hissing sound first. When I was trying to show the Apple support person the Apple Store, the store wasn't nearly quiet enough for the hissing sound to be audible. The Support person had to take my phone into a back room to confirm the hiss was there. Unfortunately, this also means you probably won't be able to tell if your replacement phone also hisses until you get to a place that is quiet enough.
As my replacement was no better I decided to live with it until apple comment or I'll just get a replacement in a few months. Not much point in replacing the phone as the chances of getting a good one are very low. If apple decides to fix this issue it will take a few weeks to implement the change and then for the phones to get to the shops.
It's a shame.
I had the same issue with iPhone 7 Plus, received phone 2 days ago. Went to Genius Bar and phone was replaced. No more hissing sound. It's a defect. Apple tech guy told me that he had never heard about this issue before, however there are owner's complaints about this issue dated 3 weeks ago.
Unfortanetly I have the same issue.. It is really a nightmare to make phone calls and it is always doing same strange sounds while phoning. It is more like when you are near to a speaker while calling.
